Do you mean cotton wool? like the fluffy white stuff you use to clean babies?
Or cotton, like the fabric your t-shirt is made out of?

He means cotton wool stuffing. I used the synthetic poly fill version on mine because it is more elastic and won't break down or lump as much or as quickly. Hypoallergenic according to the bag too.

I just tried this out, and I would have to disagree. It works VERY well. "ok" doesn't do this justice. 
I was just about to consider pulling the trigger on some new earpads, but this solves the problem far better than expected.
