Victor HA-FW10000: 10th Anniversary model

Just got chance to try the final A8000, the first impression is that I thought I was wearing the FW10000.
After comparing side by side, seems like FW10000 feels more airy but the A8000's fitting seems to be better.
Worth trying for those who love the FW10000 sound. :)

Look like a worthy contender to burn my $. How's the leak/isolation of A8000? Is it major upgrade or just a side grade? Checking if I can have a demo nearby. Paging @jmills8

Very good isolation.

On a side note, anyone else notice that decent portable amplifiers are getting more difficult to find? The PHA-2A went up in price and the iFi Hip Dac is already sold out. First when my SU-AX01 broke after one too many falls, I was able to purchase a Japanese PHA-3 in new condition. A new SU-AX01 was out of the question.

Well, now the PHA-3 has been giving me issues lately: it's been shutting off after a few minutes of listening time. Over the course of two days, my listening time got shorter and shorter until I couldn't really use them. I figured that the battery might have been degraded after I allowed it to completely drain a few times (enjoying my FW10000 too much:L3000:).

Sure, it was an old product from over 5 years ago, batteries have a certain amount of charging cycles, and it was no doubt impacted by the heat that the amp produces, but this was surprising. What to do? I want to listen to my FW10000.

I had a portable battery in my backpack that I originally bought for my iPhone XS. Hooked it up to the PHA-3 and it was working fine again, until it died after little over an hour of listening, even with the external battery attached. Plug it in and the charging indicator is blinking. Oh well.I doubt that Sony USA will give me a battery replacement for something I bought from Amazon Japan.

Eventually though, I want to replace the PHA-3 with a Walkman NW-WM1Z, and use the 4.4mm balanced cable with the FW10000. The difference in power between the Walkman and the PHA-3 is only 50mW; the Walkman is actually more powerful than the SU-AX01 in high intensity mode. I remember that JVC was working on 4.4mm cables a while back when they were showing off some prototypes, but so far they haven't announced anything.

Get 1Z or 1A. There's a firmwares FW mods just created; it should make your JVC10000 sounds better just using 1A/1Z itself compared to PHA-3. I don't think you need anymore portable amp once you hear 1A/1Z with modded firmware. It blows everyone's mind in the Sony 1A/1Z thread. I bet my JVC FX850 on modded 1Z with modded firmware sounds much better than JVC10000 on PHA-3.

Get a used 1A or 1Z on the forum, it's the best audio investment you can make, especially at used prices. Go ask everyone on the forum 1A/1Z. I'm not kidding.

The 1A for sure when I save up for it and a 4.4mm cable. The 1Z maybe not.

Agree. WM1A is my best purchase. Tried FW10K on WM1A unbalanced and it sounds great and I think balanced will be even better.

If not, a good electronics repair place might be able to source something that would work. Otherwise can probably sell it to an enterprising DIYer.

FYI - stock balanced cable of Sony IER-Z1R seemed to have good synergy with FW10000

http://www.erji.net/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=2178422

It's available here for 9,240 yen but they don't ship internationally, domestic shipping is 650 yen

https://item.rakuten.co.jp/dcc/sony_1-912-774-21/

10% discount on Wednesdays and Thursdays

https://www.fromjapan.co.jp/lp/campaign/sale/en/

No discounts here but domestic shipping within Japan is free

https://www.yodobashi.com/product/100000001005269791/

MUCH more expensive here for $131.95

https://sony.encompass.com/item/12434619/Sony/1-912-774-21/

BTW, did anyone get a chance to try this NuTube amp (DIY kit but no need for soldering) with FW10000 by any chance? Cayin N8 is a nice DAP for pairing with FW10000 and therefore it might also work well

Kinda expensive in Japan (27,500 yen) but it's such a great deal in Australia for AU$249 a piece

$131 ain’t too bad. I just bought a Litz cable from Aloaudio for $150. I’ll keep this bookmarked.
