VERISONIX-IN2UIT-VERISONIC

I have the IN2UIT I500B here. They sounded quite colored at first, but after a few hours of heavy run in with test tones, they smoothed out a bit and became less "stiff" sounding. They are fun, very transparent, and very dynamic. I can still hear a few holes in the FR response though but they do a lot of things very well and there is nothing that is constantly annoying. What is particularly nice about them is the sense of transparency, speed and vibrancy. You can 'see' and hear space around bass notes...no muddiness here. The problem I had with other dual driver headphones (Dharma, oBRAVO HAMT-1) is that the bass sounded separated from the rest of the spectrum. Not with these...everything is well integrated. I'll need more time with them before I can be assured of what I am really hearing and come to any conclusions. But now I wonder what the I501 holds in store....it's twice the price!

Thanks for posting your impressions.

I had a similar initial reaction to sound from the hybrid drivers but was able to hear the benefits after some burn-in as well. If that is a trend with the tech, it'll be interesting to hear how much difference M&J's tuning can bring.

I agree, it'll be even more interesting to hear how much improved (if any) the higher priced models are.

There are resonances...there is a tendency for the midrange to 'shout' at you at times. And if you tap the wooden cups while wearing them, they ring like bells. But you can't have it both ways...often if you damp out resonances, you lose the snap and speed and end up with a dead sounding headphone. However, I do think there's a lot of potential here.

True. There is definitely potential in these drivers. Not to mention these are the lowest price electrostats (partial) available.

Earlier, I also mentioned hearing a slight echo at the crossover point. Its possible the closed wooden earcups (and of course differences in specs) could add to that.

Here's a pic of specs from the side of the T100 box:

Perhaps you could post specs from the I500B for comparison.

I also note that there is no low bass either. Seems to roll off fast below about 50Hz.

These are the C version (199$)
I don't perceive much bass roll-off :)

Mine don't have rolled off bass either. Rather, the decay is fast enough to prevent bass from bleeding into the mids (hope that makes sense).

Except for the speaker type and diameter, the specs are all over the place. Seems the enclosures have a larger effect than I anticipated.

Also, mine have an impedance of 48 ohms (not listed on the box though).

I heard all 5 versions at canjam and they all sounded significantly different. I best liked the price - performance ratio of the ones I bought at a show special :)
Honestly though at 199$ while not perfect, I think these are tuned spot on for my personal on the go needs and a bargain.
I'll see what these guys do next and I very much like what they're doing with the pricing model and all :)
Surprise of the show for me :3

You may have a point here. I'm just not feeling the low end. I will run some low tones thru them and see.

Have either of you guys heard a full electrostatic headphone setup?

The Stax L300 is in the works and should be around $700 with an amp. With the lower pricing, I may finally get a chance to own a Stax instead of being limited to cheaper hybrids.

Any thoughts on how much more transparent a low-end Stax setup might be and how much less bass they might have compared to these hybrids?

I have the Kingsound and the Stax 2050.

Are those L300 open or closed? The grill is open but the driver membrane looks covered.

Honestly I'm not sure. Don't know enough about differences between full electrostats. Plus they're not out yet so hard to confirm final design specs.

The only closed Stax I'm aware of are these:

Guess I was just wondering, in general, how close these hybrid drivers are to full electrostatic sound.

EDIT: Just found a comparison of the two in another thread on the M&J Kickstarters.

Very clean, extended, but not hard-hitting bass. Wonderful. The N500's bass is as good as I've heard.

Heya bro, thanks for showing me these headphones!

Got so many new toys this past weekend and still giving my pair some burn in. Slapped on some brainwavz pads to give my ears some space~

Sure.
Wow, they fit!
I tried but failed... I guess I gotta try harder :D

An update...

I used the KOSS ESP 950 over the last day or two, in order to immerse myself into electrostat sound for the purposes of a comparison.

Also, I was getting the feeling that the seal on the IN2UIT I500B was not all that solid at the lower part of the ear. I did some careful (and difficult!) bending of the metal frame bars and was able to get a much more even and secure fit. And it made a big difference in the overall sound, which became warmer, more cohesive...everything integrates better now. The bass firmed up, much less thin-sounding, and the slightly nasal midrange is now smoother. I now have no complaints about the bass, it is right where it should be in relation to the rest of the spectrum.

I would say the IN2UIT I500B is a condensed version of the Stax and Koss sound. A lot of similarity with the airiness and delicacy, and the clean top end. Think of a smaller flat-screen TV compared to a larger curved one.
