I would not compare them. I have both and they do much different things in my opinion. What set up are you going to use them with and what music mainly?
Cable for sure, but I believe "tuning" as well. The Black Edition sounds more like an HD600 while the standard sounds closer to an HD650. I like both, but strangely... I do not like the HD6XX (HD650... or at least the pair that I borrowed). The Black Edition is very "clean" sounding and effortless. Bass is light on both of course, but on the Black (as long as you don't push it with too much volume) seems to reach a little "deeper" for me. It could also be the amp as well, as I'm running both Balanced, but my Black Edition has 4 pin XLR, and my Standard is 2.5mm TRRS that I run directly off of my X5iii.
Going back and forth between Zen Black and Zen Silver Dragon. I really like the Silver Dragon for Luciano Pavarotti and Classical. Detail retrieval is Amazing!
