Having troubles driving Prime DAC just from my phone (Android 14). It will only connect when I also power it externally, but the phone should be able to power it from the data port, right? If I just connect it to my phone, it blinks the green LED but doesn't connect unless I provide external power to the charge port too.
Is there some setting in android that I'm missing? Does this work for other people? I've tried with a variety of C-C cables including the one that came from VE. It works with USB A to C from my PC, but no luck from my phone.
not all phones output enough to power the prime dac. if it flickers it just means its not supplying enough power.
my poco f1 and f4 are able to power it, but my sony xperia xz3 is unable to

Thanks for the replys! I'm suprised that my Pixel 6 (a reasonably new flagship phone) can't provide the power. The poco f1 and f4 both have older USB versions (Type-C 2.0, OTG), compared to the Pixel 6 (Type-C 3.1). The (newer) xz3 you mention is also Type-C 3.1, OTG.
Anyone had luck driving the Prime from newer (e.g. Type-C 3.1) phones? Bit of a pain to have to have a separate charger/power bank when I want to move the stack around.
I'm also wondering if anyone's been using single-ended sources with the RA-2Bfe. If so, what's the pinout on the cable you're using? Following the standard guidance for e.g. RCA to 3-pin XLR, coming from TRS=LRS the pinout should become TRRRS = (L+)S(R+)SS, ie. both (-) shorted together with shield or ground. Would be nice to get some confirmation on this though.
Yes, the gold edition is a gold color coated copper. I think what Lee was trying to convey to you was that the Black Coated Copper Edition is no longer available and that the Gold Edition was/is simply a gold color-coated copper. They originally offered three (3) versions of the Prime Pure DAC: standard (~US$99.80); black-coated copper (~US$199.80); and gold-coated copper (~US$299) and thus resulting in Standard Edition; Copper Edition; and Gold Edition. Venture Electronics model naming is sometimes super confusing ! A lost in translation sort of thing.
