Well, diferent worlds Bie and Azure.
Azure has natural tunning and Bie V signature. @voja you should try someday Grand Duke, perhaps is the tunning your are looking for.

This said, I cannot imagine the Azure sounding boomy. It's a really neutral sound signature, and the BIE, like you said, is a V-shaped sound signature (though that drastically changes with tips).
And yeah, I guess that my experience differs by quite a bit due to my source pairings... I use my DX300 MAX the most.
DX300 Max is a nice DAP, and if you use its line out and attach to Defiant Se you could get a sweet and softer tube signature, at a same high level than N8ii, trust me.

theres also another factor, gear bias. so hear me out, if you use a set of gear with a very specific or abit similar tuning, it can cause what i call gear bias, where some sounds feel boosted or dampened due to gear bias.
when ever i try something new i usually have a short detox to reset my brain, about 2 days away from my usual setup

Someone rarely mentioned this "gear bias", but yeah it (personal experience) happens to me too. Also, there's this thing called "new toys" bias where we tend to give positive feedback (even though objectively it should be 'meh') in order to justify our spending and to avoid feeling the regret for buying that "new toys".

Prime DAC, take the megatron and basically make it more mature. warmth we all know and love but way more body and detail. abit technical but headroom has shifted quite abit and is like 2x the megatron had
taller and wider head room
now combined with the 2bfe clarity has been enhanced way more, and its also smoother, quiet parts of the song are further enhanced with the way things in the back ground lingers, but not too much like a short breeze that moves past you and fades into the wind

Ooohhh, nice reviews, I wonder how this stack compared to its predecessor like RAP series & Defiant
Also that's a fancy IC Vita cable lolol, must be nice

well have had some experience with the rap5, defiant and defiant se,
would say this threads a nice middle ground. has less of the older / retro sound from the rap5 which works really well with cd players, but lacks the warmth of the dfse or the headroom from the defiant.
it sits comfortably as what could potentially be an end game solution for most
