hi guys.
posting a short impressions on the new Monk 2.0S and Abigail 4.4mm
so i have basically had the monk 2.0s or shortened to V2S for the sake of convenience, for about 2 weeks
thanks again to lee for letting me get a sneak peak on these
so i think i have had these for a good two weeks. and here are some of my thoughts on these. this will also include the soon to be released abigail 4.4mm
disclaimer. the gear here, are all paid for by myself. I'm just lucky to get them earlier
so being the jerk that i am i posted a few photos with the V2S obscured by gintoki (best waitu, fight me)
to begin with the V2S its the reincarnated V2 which was sunset early on due to sudden death issues, and with the return of its latest reincarnation terminated in 4.4mm (no idea if a 3.5mm version is available) this is the definitive return to the old classic VE sound.
Now if you are a fan of the Monk Go or its various incarnations (expecially so if you like the SPC, and GF) this is right up your alley
also one quality of life improvement is the addition of a "nipple" on the left earbud. making it easier to identify which side is which
now for most of my initial listening i have been using the abigail 4.4
as for my music preference im a post rock guy (GIAA, MONO, Red Sparrows, Polyphia, etc) so indie music and the odd smattering of japanese singers namely megumi hayashibara, AKINO, May'n, mika nakashima, to name a few
so on to the sound
as mentioned its a better V2 for those in the know. Its also has the feel of the Monk Go. vocals, and bass etc are all similar but better
from what i can tell the V2S has a really good balance of bass, mids, and treble. neither too high nor too low.
headroom wise its quite intimate. not iem levels of intimacy, but closer to the 2021 hd600 type. where the vocals float around the front of your face
i have found one rather odd thing, it seems to be able to pick up many small details. annoyingly it managed to pickup the camera crew behind an old james bond film i was watching the other day.
so be warned this is one of those gears that will let you know if the source you have was poorly recorded or encoded....
------
and on to the abigail 4.4
somehow these feel more powerful then the old 3.5mm abigail.
it now comes in a new shorter shell and a nice SPC cable from what i can see (maybe its vita?)
im digging the new look. reminiscent of the former OHD that is still well loved by the community (i bought 5
)
sound wise it seems to now have more power. it drives most things under 60 ohms relatively well.
now before anyone asks "can it he400se?"
well kinda. i mean it sounds alright but it requires more juice. it can be a tad bloated in the mids when used with the abigail 4.4 but that's the trade off for portability
i do hope lee packages the abigail 4.4mm and the V2S. these two are what you would call a complete package, especially so if the V2S is 4.4mm only

looks like there's gonna be a new limited offers exclusive for Megatron owners on 18th this month, a bundle of Impedance Adapter & Mic for $5 only, also Lee said that there's gonna be a little surprise for early buyers that bought the bundle. Be sure not to miss this event lol
