So, I was thinking of getting a DAC mainly for my speakers (Yamaha HS-80M). I've heard great things about the Valab Nos.

But, I thought, why don't I just get a Audio GD FUN and use Line Out to my speakers. That way I could have a temporary headphone amp until my big leap (Ref1/7 and Pheonix) and a fairly good DAC.

How do these two compare DAC wise?

I say go for the FUN because it can act as a pre-amp for your active monitor and give them a better sound also valab seem to have quality control problem and also the fun have a headphone amp ! For me the FUN is a no brainer though the dac of the valab is maybe better.

if you check the ebay ads for the valab, they admit that the SNR sucks on those old Philips chips...and that hissing is very audible.
