Use RCA to 3.5mm adapter with DAC Topping E50 Mini Schiit Modi

Yes. Is that weird? I need it for a very specific purpose, namely to drive my PC38X, which are only 28 Ohm. So, I don't think I need an AMP. I just need the DAC, hence the weird setup.

You still need an amplification circuit that you will find in...an amplifier. Or a single box DAC-HPamp unit.

Amps like engines aren't all the equivalent of twin-turbo Porsche or Audi V10s or 8500rpm Ferrari V12s. Some amp circuits are more like the 3cyl in a Mitsubishi Mirage, like on USB-powered DAC-HPamps.

Can I not control the volume through my PC?

I already have a FiiO K5 Pro. I'm worried that it may provide too much power even at low gain for such sensitive headphones like the PC38X. Should I not worry about that if I have it on low gain and low volume?

Even if you don't go below 16bits with modern software, you only have 2V delivery without any real current drive, something a lower impedance headphone would actually need. Not to mention the output impedance of a line level output is very high.

That said, I'm not saying it "absolutely won't work," it's just kind of like putting an even older 3cyl carb engine in a Mirage thinking it's about the same thing when the Mirage is heavier than any cars back in the 70s that used similarly small engines.

I decided to try the PC38X with my FiiO K5 Pro and they worked. I kept the K5 in low gain mode.

Last week, I had tried this and I heard static. I assumed it was because the K5 was delivering too much power but it turned out to be a cheap USB cable. I bought a Chroma Cable and today the static was gone and the headphones worked perfectly.

So, I don't need to get an RCA to 3.5mm after all.
