As the title suggests, I'm interested in upgrading from my Aurvana Live headphones to something better. I'm using an Aune T1 as an external DAC. Was looking at the AKG Q 701, and it seems to be the best fit for me. I enjoy a bit bassier listening experience, but only slighlty. I'm the type that enjoys flat and neutral sound for the most part. A little warm is okay too.

  Sorry, 2-300 USD

I would assume the AKG K7XX ($200), which I own and like, would be a better choice, over the Q701.

What makes them better? And where can I even buy it new? Doesn't seem like that drop is going on anymore

I believe the K7XX comes with more bass and a better head band, then the Q701.
There no longer any new K7XX, but should be able to find used ones in near mint condition.

Alright, I'll see if I can find one then. Anything else worth looking at?

Right now can't think of anything better for $200.
And it kind of fits, the K7XX works best with a healthy amount of power and a tube amp (hybrid amp) usually outputs a healthy amount of power.

As someone who owns the CAL, and previously had the K712, K702 65th, original K702, and K701 (but admittedly not the Q701): you will NOT get "slightly" more bass with any of the AKG K70x headphones (you'll get less bass, actually), nor will you get "flat" or "neutral" sound from them either. Plus they all need high-voltage amps to really sound their best. The AKG headphones sound substantially different from the CAL, and not in ways that you might like.

The Audio-Technica MSR7 is sonically much closer to the CAL (while improving on it) and would seem to fit your criteria.
