I enjoy the above player normally coupled with a Meier 2Move amp and a pair of Sleek Audio SA6's or Yuin OK2 headphones when on the move. Ultrasone Proline 650 when home.

I am considering a new player, if this could give me better sound quality and I would prefer to stick to iPods since the majority of my library is AAC encoded VBR.

Is there a better sound quality to get from a newer better iPod, or would it be a waste of money and a wrong route to better sound?

I am also doubting a bit whether the SA6's are the best for a clear natural sound in the IEM 200$ range.

Thanks a lot for your advice!

I was going to suggest the Sansa Fuze to you, as it's very similar in size/shape/layout to the 3G Nano... but it doesn't play AACs :|

Are you using a line out dock? If yes, then there is nothing to be gained from changing ipods (other than space+features). Your amp is also perfectly fine, so if you're looking for something new, change your IEMs/headphones.

The current Classic will give you a lot more storage for lossless files

The current 32GB Touch will give you a lot more functionality than 'just a DAP', and many argue that they think its the best sounding of the current range.

The iMod will give you the best sound of any iPod.

Back to you.

Thanks, and yes I am using line out of dock. ;-) And good to know the source is fine when used like that.

Thanks for the advice! I thought iMod was only for certain model of the iPod family, and if I recall correct it is rather expensive...

Might just look for a better IEM than the SA6's without breaking the bank

Go for Touch or classic (depending of space). Those are better then 3,4,5 Gen nano, IMHO!

The 3rd gen nano had just as bad or worse specs than the 2nd gen one, except it was "warmer" sounding. The 4th and 5th gen ones are huge steps forward in specs. Any of the cheap (and newer) Sansas and Cowons will also easily beat your nano, though.

Thanks. Are the 4th and 6th gen *also* (huge) steps forward in SQ?

Thanks - when you say "better" is that a comparison from LOD or just the normal line out?
