Hi,

I would like to upgrade from my Sennheiser HD 201. What would be the logical choice?
My budget is +- € 80. I'm looking for a circumaural one, that's able to be driven from an iPod Shuffle when I'm outdoor, so it has to be kind of closed. It's also going to be used from a macbook. I mainly listen to all kind of rock music: screamo, post-rock, noise, hardcore, alternative etc...

at ~€80, look at the HD555 for a serious upgrade in the sennheiser sound, or maybe at something like iGrado/SR60 for a different sound that will fit with your genres, just not circumaural.

Look into some of the Audio-Technica AD Series. Supposedly Nice, doesn't get much love here though. In America the AD-700's are 107-ish-USD so that's about 72 euros? Saves you 8 euros for tunes or something.

I upgraded from HD201s and went for Denon AH-D1001s. They're similar in several ways, both being closed and circum-aural, but not very large. SQ-wise, the D1001s are better in every way though I sometimes still prefer the 201s amped with certain kinds of music. It's weird, but there we go.

Edit: The AD series gets plenty of live here, actually. AD700 especially. Blargh, I spend far too much time here...
