I bought my ATH-ES7 a little over a year ago and I'm happy with them. I am looking to upgrade to headphones that are more comfortable and bigger. The ES7 don't fit my head the best and become uncomfortable after a hour of use. I use my headphones with my iPod and laptop mostly. I do not need the headphones to be portable. Thanks.

I listen to bands like Radiohead, Say Anything, Broken Social Scene, Minus the Bear, Death Cab. lol i'm bad at classifying the music I listen to. Other possible choices at that price point are the Denon D2000 and Ultrasone Hfi780.

The A700 is closed. The AD700 is open. Between these I would get the AD700. For rock and more bass, I would want the D1001 and an amp, and optionally mod it and re-cable. Same goes for the D2000, but then you'd be over your $250 budget.

Yes, I suggest you seriously consider a JVC RX900 with a nice portable amp. See the portable amp forum for recommendations.

You stated in your original post that you wanted more comfort than the ES7 so that's probably why you weren't recommended any Grados...but yeah, Grados would go well with your music tastes...

I have to say that in my opinion Grados and the ES7 are both not the best comfort-wise but in different ways.
