I've been running this setup for about 5 years. Its done well for me a while, but I feel I'm read to step it up and upgrade. I'm just not sure if I should keep my headphones and upgrade my amp and dac, or just the amp or what...
I think I might be wanting something more "fun" sounding with a bit more low end, if that makes any sense. A bit less fatiguing on the high end also.
My uses are mostly for music. Orchestrated movie sound tracks, classic rock like Queen, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Guns N' Roses, etc. Some gaming as well.
I'd prefer open back and a decently wide soundstage, the Q701s have me spoiled there. I also have a pair of HD 598s and they feel a bit too closed in, but I really enjoy its sound signature. If I could marry these two and have a combination of the two, I think I would be happy with that.
No complaints with my amp or sound card, other than my sound card gives of a bit of pink noise, but not too bad. Are there any reasons to consider upgrading my amp, especially to something tube? I've sorta a blank slate here with not a lot of experience with hifi gear and no where to try it out. I guess I'm just asking for an excuse to buy new things lol.
