Upcoming Shanling Audio Products - Fall 2020

Can the M8 flagship DAP be used as a USB DAC and a bluetooth LDAC transmitter *at the same time*? While I'm looking for an audiophile DAC primarily for the playback of stored files, having the ability to stream music from my computer to my Sony LDAC compatible wireless headphones would be a plus.

No, this function is not available on our Android players. Available only on our MTouch players (M0, M5s, M2X, Q1).

So, I picked up a UA-2 portable DAC a few weeks ago, and have been using it with my iBasso IT01s on an iPhone X.

I've been having some issues with interference, which I believe to be down to the USB-C to Lightning adapter - I posted about it here.

One final question - is there any way to adjust the gain of the UA-2? I really need to cut it by maybe 6-12dB? It's REALLY loud for everything, and means that both the PC and iPhone are too loud with only 1/3 volume. Volume control is way too coarse. There's a small button on one side of the DAC, but I can't seem to find what it does and there was no manual on the box, nor can I find one online.

Any help gratefully received.

It looks like the UA-2 uses the phone's volume control. You won't get finer volume control. Your best move, if you like the Shanling sound, is probably to get the UP4, which I think head is own volume control. I'd wager they sound similar and the UP4 is more flexible. DSD512 is quite literally a waste of space.

You can adjust gain and volume control in Eddict Player app. Unfortunately that's possible only on Android, due to iOS limitations.

Thanks for the update regarding gain. Frustrated that I can't adjust that on iOS.

Did you read my other post regarding interference issues? I've purchased two other MFi certified USB-C to lightning cables to try and cure this issue - one from Anker and one from UGreen. Neither of them will power up the UA2 DAC. Is there something special regarding the cabling requirements for iOS?

You need to get cable that's designed for use with USB DACs. MFI certified cables do not work.

I've found that the interference I'm hearing in the headphones is coming from the DAC. I listen almost exclusively during my commute, especially while on the subway. I have found that if I bring the DAC up against the back of my iPhone I can hear noise over the top of the music - like an electronic chirping which sounds like it equates to RF noise generated either by the cell service antenna or the WiFi antenna. If I move the DAC away from the phone, the noise gets much quieter. If I put the phone into Airplane mode, the noise disappears after the WiFi and 4G shut down.

I'm guessing that there isn't anything you can do for the UA2, but you may want to look at RF shielding for future models - the noise is really strong and very distracting. If I had bought the DAC from Amazon instead of AliExpress, I would consider returning it. The sound quality is GREAT, but the interference is a dealbreaker. Hope this information is constructive.

We have distributor in UK. Not exactly sure right now about their whole sales network, but Hifi Headphones are their main dealer.

No plans for UA1 for iOS.

Brought to you by popular demand, my full written review of the UA2 DAC/AMP from Shanling Audio is live now~

This is a really powerful DAC/AMP with a great dynamic sound, but with a rather high power consumption. The best part is that it has both Single Ended and Balanced, but you can replace its cable, so even if you do break it eventually, the unit should still work just fine, plus it can drive most headphones well, so I did a few comparisons in the full written review on UA2~
