Unsellable L3000

Sep 28, 2007 at 12:17 AM Post #61 of 69
J-Pak the EQ I mentioned, was mentioned to be aside from the controls the amp has, it was said to be internally...FYI, no, my memory is fine, and I do not need to make up anything neither...(BTW the HA5000 is a different story, and I have not read in any place that it has that internal EQ) Again I could be wrong, and I'm not sure neither, I just posted what I read here...

But I will not do the search to find the articles claiming that, they were posted here in headfi while the amp was released, so whomever is interested could try to find that info, anyway it is about something that I do not like so why bother...

The external EQ of that amp is IMO a very useful feature, it makes an amp, and any amp more versatile. I liked the bass boost the PPA has, and how Phil considered it in the code as well. I'm a not a purist by any means, and if any EQ makes any headphone to sound right, welcome, is that what we are after, right!!! Ok we know that if we can get it with no help, it is better...

About the old members with a lot of gear and experience that you mentioned, all of them have their own preference as well, not necessarily, has to match others (and some of them not even close to mine thanks God) and with all due respect, their ears are not better than others, do not forget that the ears are given by mother nature, and you can to change them with money, or owning gear OK?

...(And in some cases, to be honest with you, the more I read posts about some of those old experienced members, the less I understand what audio is about, what they like, and what they are after in sound, or what kind of recorded material they listen to honestly...Sometimes they let me in one piece wondering....

PS: BTW didwlgh, the thread if you read the OP, was about the sale of one L3000 in eBay, not about the L3000 sound, nor was initiated to praise the L3000 values over the rest of the headphones...but anyway it is true that it was somewhat about the L3000...

So now I will let you guys have fun in peace...

And I have read a lot about the DHA3000 because it is something I like

And I've never read that it has an internal EQ. I do not find any fault in the L3000s frequency response that needs correcting, I would have sold them long ago and pocketed the change if there was something wrong. I believe a lot of people are using the SinglePower or Eddie Current amps with the L3000. I know of very few Headfi DHA owners, I'm mainly turned off by it forcing you to use its internal DAC (and I assume this is true for others).

And the reason I mentioned old time members is because new people are often attracted to big bass and sparkling highs (reminds me of the Edition 9

) and fail to scrutinize the midrange; IMO the most critical part of any transducer's design.

Yes, I do love the EQ function on the DHA3000. However, I prefer not to have "EQ built-in" to a headphone.

As for your last point, I never asked you to stop posting...you offered in the first place.

not a big fan of edits, unless they're strictly for typos....after all, we should all carefully think about what we want to post, eh?

Sorry but remember that this forum is an international place, we have many members, many of them, including me, that are not english native speakers...
We need to read sometimes after posting (or at least after writing) and try to figure out sometimes a better way to make ourselves clearer, or if we are a little rough sometimes "unintentionally", to make a post a little more polite will not harm in any way...

I only heard Edition 9 at two Meets. The second one was at San Jose on Aug 25, where I did give Edition 9 a longer audtion. I like the sound in general and tried hard to love it, but I failed. I is simply not in the same calibar as L3000 IMHO. At the same Meet, I A/B'ed quite some time between L3000 and RS-1 so the memory of L3000 was "fresh" at that time and I think my impression is legit.
