Has anyone found what tips work best for them for the Mentor?

They are great. The technicalities and presentation is insane. They also trade blows with the Elysian X when it comes to electronic music. I just started getting into house music because the BCD makes the bass from that genre have a physical sensation that is addicting.

It is absolutely a great all rounder and I could even sell all my other IEMs and be content.

It is unfortunate that the reason why I bought it was for rock and metal music, but for me I still feel an itch for something better for that genre, so the search for my specialized rock IEM still continues. I guess my expectations are too high for rock as my favorite genre. It still passes the mark for enjoyment, but I want something that wows me as a specialist for the genre as Traillii did with folk music, or Elysian X with electronic music. I even enjoy Electronic music more than rock music on the Mentor.

These are still super great and will be my main driver when I don't want to be switching IEMs a lot, or want to listen to a Playlist of a variety of genres. Even watching movies with the Mentor is a great experience. They remind me of when I bought the OG Mest as my first IEM over $1k. They absolutely wow me with that imaging.

I look forward to trying new TOTL IEMs and find which one wows me in the metal/rock department.
Yes I understand. I also am realizing and think part of the problem is the production and mastering of metal music in general. I think sometimes our expectations are too high for what metal actually sounds like. I think I’m learning that having listened to the genre and a lot of iem’s.

I use the blue silicone UM ones. I’ve tried a bunch and still like them the best.

That makes a lot of sense. My expectations are definitely too high for metal music. The mastering and production point is something I hadn't considered, but it makes sense. I hope to find something that will wow me in the future though. I'll hopefully find an IEM at a future canjam that will satisfy that itch.

Thanks for the heads up.

I am curious to hear how the aroma jewel sounds with metal. I have a friend who has one and maybe will meet up to see. I would also like to hear the new fir RD6.

I'm currently enjoying the Acoustune AET07s. Haven't played with tips too much yet, though.

As much as I love the sound of the Mentor I have decided to list mine for sale as I prefer the Trifecta at the moment for my use case which is for commuting. My experience with it has been exceptional, it is among the best I have heard and certainly ranks highest for the midrange and vocal performance, in particular female vocals.

Hey guys ,as much as i liked and being impressed by MM i finally decided against it. I wonder if there are some of you who find MM also being too boomy and overwhelming by its bass presentation. I know it has a very accurate and fast bass presentation but i found it for most genres with exception of classical music too overemphasized leading to listening fatigue in my case. Even the treble i would consider being a bit piercing or harsh. Maybe i am too much of a fan of Traillii and its presentation of musical delivery. If Traillii would not be lacking slightly in punch or mid bass delivery it would be a endgame IEM. I am curious about your thoughts.

My feeling is different, I dont find the bass overwhelming personally. That said, I am used to the EVO and Trifecta and mainly listen to bass-driven music so lean towards IEMs geared towards that. Right now I am listening to an album by Nia Archives, a fast-paced drum and bass album, the Mentor handles this beautifully especially the clarity and vocal delivery. Bass is very present and not lacking, but its not as front and centre as my other two IEMs.

Exactly thats the point, its a matter of personal taste and i am not surprised if you find MM being well balanced if you are used to bass monsters like EVO or Trifecta. In my case i am very sensitive to treble and bass. I appreciate bass when needed and recorded on the track but not all the time, this leads to the mentioned listenig fatigue. Its like the salt in the soup or spices in meals,it should be well balanced, in my case i am craving for a more neutral and reference monitor like summit-fi sound signature...

/edit (just read you already had Traillii)

Have you looked at the Jewel? I was personally put off this one because I read that it is quite neutral, but it might be more in line with what you are looking for in a summit IEM.

I wrote to UM support (https://www.uniquemelody.org/en-gb/pages/contact-us) asking about the Universe of Deep cable which I find does not clamp the IEM as much as I would like, as a result I am too concerned about using these when outside in case they drop off the cable as I am sort out putting them on. It might not be an issue for most but it is for me as I tend to use IEMs outside. I wrote over a week ago , and have not had any response, is this usual service expectation for Unique Melody?

Has anyone compared the Deep of Universe Shielding (Mentor's stock cable) to the First Times and/or can say what the technical difference is? I read somewhere that the Deep of Universe Shielding is actually the First Times, can anyone confirm this somehow?
