Thanks, I´ll give it a try. It is very difficult to port the gorgeous ¨Analogue¨ X5 theme by user relic to X1?

 @x RELIC x

Will be visiting when time allows and if he can get his theme on an X1....you can be damn sure he will try
biggrin.gif

There are a ton of them out there (X1's I mean) a buncha little X1's running around with Analogue juicing them is an Idea I doubt he would oppose.
You really should try and get familiar with opening and closing a Firmware. I couldn't even open the firmware tool at the beginning and now it's like nothing. Click, open, drag, drop, reset (rinse and repeat)

We need more themers so get into it. Relic might just say "sure just re-size your images"...which would be easy if it's that easy but you gotta learn how to follow the step by step guide posted above and ask any questions if you get stuck.

We are here for you.

Whole point of this thread.

It won't be possible to port the Analogue theme to the X1 even if you re-size the images for the smaller X1 screen.

The X1 is less customisable than either the X5 or current generation X3, as you cannot reposition and/or change the dimensions of the images used in the firmware - something that is crucial to the Analogue layout.

When you unpack the X1 theme it does contain a bunch of coordinate files but they don't actually do anything to the X1 theme when you edit them.

Someone brought this up as a question on the Fiio forum, and Fiio confirmed that the icons on X1 are fixed (unlike the X3 and X5) and that probably won't change with future firmware updates ...

I was under the impression there was some envy for the X1 FW by some X5 owners but it might have just been about font and font color changing.
How many images are in the X1 boot animation? Off the top of my head i think the X5 is 28 images and shutdown is 10

I've seen some people say they prefer the X1 default theme to the X5 default theme. It would be possible to port the theme from an X1 firmware to the X5, but not particularly easy as there are various differences between the two (e.g. screen dimensions and resolution, number of bands in the equalizer, etc). You could upscale and adapt the images used in the X1 firmware, but they would lose sharpness.

But I thought the last few posts on this thread were about going in the other direction - porting the "Analogue" X5 theme to the X1 - that, in my opinion, is impossible.

I'm not sure what relevance this has, but the X1 has 43 frames in the bootup animation, and 17 frames in the shutdown animation.

The analogue question was by another but it answered questions for me via you about some differences.  The # of frames in boot up would allow for much higher quality animations as i use them for my bookends of themes. The X1 has almost double since the screen and image are smaller I guess? 43 frames on the X5 would be a memory issue but that would really be nice to have so much to work with.

DESCRIPTION
  1. I created a theme for the Fiio X1 (Firmware V1.22Beta)
  2. The theme mostly consists of Violet and Green textures on a Black background.
  3. Also comes with custom Startup and Shutdown sequences.
  4. To know what Version of ELIX1R Theme you have, go to System Settings>About X1 on your Fiio X1. Then move the wheel until you see a screen like this.

HOW TO DOWNLOAD/INSTALL
  1. Download the "x1.fw" firmware file using the Download Link above. Yes it's safe.
  2. Place the file in your Fiio X1 root directory.
  3. Unplug your Fiio X1.
  4. Power off your Fiio X1 by holding down the Power/Lock key.
  5. When off completely, press and hold the Power/Lock key AND Shortcuts key (top-left button).
  6. Release the buttons when it says "updating..." and wait for it to finish.
  7. To apply the theme, go to System Settings>Theme and select "Theme 1".
  8. That's it! Next time you plug in your Fiio X1, you can delete the "x1.fw" file.
  9. If you wish to revert back to the default firmware, look for the download link in Fiio Support.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN THEME
  1. Follow this link, it uses the Fiio X5 as an example but it also works on the Fiio X1.
  2. If you have any questions about the process, leave a reply or PM.

-Click this link to follow the thread on Deviantart.<<<<Visit TOASTuh for updates, questions or thanks regarding this theme

-Please do not rehost the download. **Permission received**
-Please do not sell this, it's free.
-Please do not copy the art.

Themeing 101

Before you theme you should consider the kind of themes that are available to you.
It is not infinite. It is finite.
You are manipulating an upper layer of the Firmware that relates to the appearance only. Hardware tweaks are unavailable to you. You are redecorating.
There are...it appears, 4 ways in which you can go.

The 1st and easiest (crazy awesome ancient wheels aside)  is to simply leave everything where it is and change the images.

"Aztechno" which I love...(I wanted the blue and i wanted the Aztech glyphs
mad.gif
) aside for the awesome Aztech wheel which may be re-born soon
L3000.gif

The original mod was essentially n X5 under the launcher screen. Most everything else was left alone. There was a 90 degree rotation done which is the X1 default and I wonder if that mod done by a themer inspired the more practical positioning of the wheel on the bottom instead of the side?

Changing the launcher section only while leaving most of the lower layers alone would be the 1st type of mod

The 2nd type would be a much more difficult one where the entire G.U.I is modified and the icons and their position are changed to match the theme

The 3rd type would be full image on scroll or photo themed

The icons are removed as the screen itself is the icon. Your position is clear via large text or through an obvious image.

The 4th type would be a full re-dressing of the theme with intent  to create an alternate device.

One is not better than another as it's paint and saying a red car performs better than a black one makes about as much sense as saying a visual theme improves the audio output of the device it's on.
It's about user pref.

There are benefits and drawbacks to all 4 and I'll get into those points later.
Every themer ...and there are about 6 active ones for the X5 have a signature style. It would be nice to get some more styles.

**Looks at lurker**

You theme...YOU DO IT NOW!!

Whilst the information in the post above is very useful, and true for the current X3 and X5, for the X1 the only option is the 1st. You can update existing X1 theme images but you can't control their position or size ... although there are a bunch of ini files in the coordinates folder, changing them doesn't actually do anything ... so this really limits how much you can do.

I'd love to come up with a radical redesign for the X1 theme but it's just not possible at the moment.

I also wonder if that will be the cases with the X3 Gen II, as the pictures I've seen suggest it will use a slightly modified X1 theme. It would be a shame if adapting the X3 Gen II theme was also a bit limited. For me, creating a new theme is all part of the joy of owning a DAP.

I could never go back to the default G.U.I and am amazed that anyone would. There are several outstanding offerings that exceed the one that came with the device. I'm glad I did not get the X1 as I almost did but was told by a person on here to go through the official vendor in Japan but nah...I went to my boy at Aliexpress and got the X5 in a week. Really happy about that choice now.
You'd be in play land with an X5. I don't know of another DAP with such a combo of screen area and access to upper level G.U.I elements??

Am 100% sure a FiiO dude has seen this thread and they know the appeal of the device only grows when the flexibility of the user interface is shown.

I bought mine right after looking at the aztechno theme. That themer pretty much got an X5 sold

Let's say 15% wanted to see it but never intended to use it or ended up disliking it. (I think that # is reasonable as it had a video preview to get a gist before download)

That leaves maybe 340 folks in 27 countries using my theme right now.

America,U.K.,Brazil are top 3.

Point is.... that is an X5

An X1 most certainly has a younger average age user and that group can flash firmware with ease as they do it on other devices when the root, flash, rockbox etc....other devices.
FiiO should give some more treats for the X1 G.U.I if possible as it can be a great selling point.

I have been looking for another DAP that has the customization of the X5 and I'm not finding one.
FiiO has a winning layered image based structure. They should put it to more use in the X1   IMO

I've updated firmware version 1.3 for the Fiio X1 to include my custom theme ...

http://www.head-fi.org/t/756613/unified-x1-3-5-7-theming-thread-video-image-library#post_11360003

Hi, thanks for the awesome-looking theme.

I've updated to 1.3 with your theme and there seems to be an issue with the quick start guide part in the "about X1" section. When scrolling clockwise, it's stuck on the intro page, and anti clockwise it goes to page 9 of the user guide.
No big deal of course, just thought I'd let you know.
