I find this very interesting. Especially how well the Pro 900 extends out to 20kHz. I haven't seen that before.

Also, perhaps this gives some credence to people claiming that the Pro 900 is superior to the ed 8.

PS please don't jump on this thread just to state that frequency response doesn't mean anything.

Thanks. Would love to see the chart on the KeeS modded Pro 900 too to see how much you can actually relate. ED 8 does indead have a slightly rolled off treble so that is correct. It was like a year I run Pro 900 stock but the Ed 8 give a lot more mid bass then the Pro 900.

Deep bass is about the same on my Pro 900 and ED 8.

Did you try the ED9?

Funny, my guess was 9db boost on the bass, the graph show 10db boost around 100hz.

Wouldn't it be +7dB as neutral is actually +2dB bass?

I'm surprised to see people saying the Ed8 is the one with rolled off treble. The 900 has a big hollow around 10khz. You also want the treble to roll off gradually so that the highest registers are not "flat", to emulate a diffuse field response and thus a nice soundstage. I would not say the 900 is superior by that graph at all.

Does removing the protection diode change the frequency response of the pro 900? Maybe someone can convince headroom to solder out the diodes and do another graph. I feel almost certain the sound has changed, becoming hollower/lighter but easier for my mp3 player to show detail, but pretty bad for my home system (in fact I find myself listening to mp3 player at home sometimes). I don't advise others to try it because it does seem to have an even less warm sound, last thing pro 900 needs for enjoying music, but it is quite interesting how much detail I'm getting with an mp3 player.

Did compare the bass more thoroughly now... In term of real low bass Pro 900 surely is boosted a bit more still. Though it´s a bit hard to compare ear wise since ED 8 is very soft where as the 900 has a lot more attack so it´s quite different characteristics.

These are some measurements I did on my former PRO 900 a while ago:

Yes, it sounded that way. When wearing them normally, the measurement was closest to the red graph. Extremely and overly bassy, cold mids and a bit distant. Totally unlike any other headphone I've ever heard. Once you get used to it, it's alright, but beware of listening to any other headphone in comparsion. Simply don't.

I used a pair of Soundman OKM II Pop/AV Electret Earbud-Microphones for those measurements. Check out the link in my signature, it's all there.

What SPL did you measure at? If you bump the volume up the treble and bass go haywire

What do you mean, please explain? You have the zero db line on the left side.
