Japanese distributor of ULTRASONE said that
The number of production being planned now is 1111.
And Japanese's quantity is limited 500.
Here is Japanese distributor's blog.

1111 is only today's plan.
I don't know future's plan.
I guess ULTRASONE can make more editio9s if they want.
I hope my poor English doesn't cause confusion on this topic.

That answer match what exactly Evan told me, but not sure why the other guys got a different info and even a limited number of 1111 units, as there is a discrepancy, it will be good forthem to clear things up...I have been never aware of any limited number in any of my emails with them, and they have no reason to lie me...Why?

I'm happy for now

Per the Japanese info above, and I just got off the phone, again, with Ultrasone US, the run Is 1111 and Utrasone US is not sure if they will get any more as the run is nearing its end. What more can I say? I only post this for those who might want to get some if they can find a dealer that can order them a pair.

Obviously there's a mismatch on what the different sources say. I can't help thinking that:

a) Ultrasone (the factory) is planning to discontinue the Ed9 and replace it with a newer model, but don't want to say it plainly clear, to avoid potential customers to stop buying the units already produced. Which seems expectable, you're not going to buy a 1500 euros headphone if a new model, maybe better, is about hitting the streets.

b) There's nothing of the above and the distributors/dealers worldwide just are feeding the rumour of the Ed9 being about ending production to "stimulate" potential buyers to get their pair before they're gone. This makes sense while no evidence of a substitute model is going to come out.

c) A great deal of lack of communication is had between Ultrasone (the factory) and its representatives, dealers and distributors, leading to a situation in which while the factory doesn't plan to stop producing Ed9 anytime soon, the representatives believe they are.

Don't know what to believe. Take your poison

I think it may be even more simple.
Ultrasone made a batch that covers what they expect to sell from now on, based on the sales figures of the past period.
They will make another batch if the Edition 9 continues to sell in enough quantity to make a profit.
So: this is the last batch for now (because they think they made enough allready to cover all sales), but they will make more if sales continue to be good enough.

Maybe but, why to stop producing a headphone that has sold more than 900 units in two years? Of course I know nothing about the profit they're making on these, but I don't think it costs more than 400 euros to have it made. So if they stopped making it, what I'd expect is a new model.

Rgrds.

I found this on a Ultrasone webpage:

"Due to the great feed-back regarding the sold out “Edition7 limited” series, the Edition9 headphones have been developed to meet our customers special requests in design and sound. Edition9 is not limited and disposes of the highest quality materials and the most precise and natural sound appearance".

Here is the link to the page:

Thanks for the link. This pisses me off because I have been told by Ultrasone US that it is. I wonder what is up. They state without reservation (the head of Ultrasone US) that Ultrasone Germany made it very clear the run would be 1111 and this reafirmed to them in January. This doesn't make any sense to me. I can't imagine, well I could, they are trying to drum up sales since this phone has a limited audience and stressing it is at the end of the run isn't going to garner that many more sales. So I don't know what gives.

Yeah, I understand what you mean. For my purposes this has been resolved, if Ultrasone Germany has stated on thier website it is not a limited edition, it must be so. Maybe they are planning to discontinue this model in the near future as others have said, don't know.

Good question. I emailed them and put in quotes the Ultrasone Germany information.
