Hi all,

So my Ultrasone HFI-580s recently died on me after quite a solid run. I really enjoyed them, and honestly would just get the same phones again if not for the fact that I travel a lot more now, so the straight cable is not the most practical thing for me anymore. For someone who enjoyed the ability of the 580 to make a wide range of music sound fun, as opposed to being a more laid back sound, what would your recommendations be on the DJ1 vs the DJ1 PRO? Both are very similar in price on Amazon right now, so I'm looking to make a decision soon.

I've heard that the DJ1s are basically just a rebrand with a coiled cable, so my default would be to fall back on those, but I'm interested to hear what people thought of the DJ1 PROs and what the differences between the two were

For some reference, I listen to a wide range of music, but the bulk of my listening consists of Alt-Rock and Electronic, so I really need some good mids and bass, and these would be used mostly unamped or with the crappy portable amp I have right now (Fiio E5).

Thanks!

go with the dj pro1's they offer a lot better build and are an overal upgrade over the regular ones also you might consider pioneer's hdj- range which offer good sound build and confort at a half decent price on amazon and offer a lot of bass although the 2000's have a much more balanced sound but not as balanced as the audio technica ath-m50's

Thanks for the input! Not really overly concerned about the build, more about the sound differences between the two. I take fairly decent care of my headphones even when traveling, so unless one of them is prone to falling apart without provocation, I really just want to hear more about sound differences between the two. I did check out the the 1500s since they were in a competing with price range with the DJ1/(PRO) but the demo unit I heard seemed to have a very hollow midrange. For the same reason I wasn't a huge fan of the M-50s. They were not bad phones, but they just weren't as fun to listen to as the 580s because their midrange seemed a bit lacking in comparison.
