My vote goes to Van Morrison's "Sweet Thing" from Astral Weeks. This is the kind of song you might sing under her window at midnight, if you were so inclined...

Otis Redding - These Arms Of Mine

Carlo--
Your taste in music is so close to mine it's scary. Damn, man, I can't dispute any of those incredible choices. I must have your CD collection disc for disc. And that's a big collection!!

Hirsch,
What can I say except-- hell ya!!!

mark,

yeah, we definitely have some overlap in our collections

. i think where we differ is your love for yes and other progressive bands, while i drift closer to crazy dudes playing guitars like maniacs (stooges, oblivians, etc).

i should add chuck berry's "ding a ling" off the london sessions for good measure...

best,
carlo.

tom mcrae is still on the fringe of the rotation... i don't know what it is man but right now it just sounds whiny to me. i see the potential for the greatness you speak of, but it hasn't gotten me (yet?).

how about that jonathan richman cd?

i'm blanking on any more songs for the list, but richman's "everyday clothes" is up there for me.

posting on behalf of carlo (in an entirely heterosexual way), because he first gave me a nudge in the direction of this album/song:

tom waits - i hope that i don't fall in love with you

my crappy list:
tom waits - coney island baby
rolling stones - wild horses
beatles - norwegian wood (for my dad, one of his favorite songs of all time)
nirvana - heart-shaped box
death cab for cutie - champagne from a paper cup
soul asylum's cover of "sexual healing"
final fantasy iv piano collections - theme of love (does this count?)
modest mouse - trailer trash
sunny day real estate - song about an angel

ugh, i'm pathetic. sorry to butcher this thread, but i tried.
