Hey guys, I have an Aune T1 paired with the he500s and although i would love a schiit lyr + bii frost combo, i cant afford it right now but iam looking to replace the stock rube of the aune t1 with something better that will enhance/improve the sound ?? Any recommendations? and if so can you please post a link to where i can purchase the tube? Somebody recommended a tube a while back to me and i was so confused when i tried searching for it, the prices varied from cheap to expensive for the same tube and there some of the 'used' tubes were far more expensive then brand new!!

Two i have read about as being good are the gold lion i think its called and the amperex 7308 (but there appears t be different types)

Appreciate any help guys :)

My T1 came with a 6922EH which is an OK tube, pleasant to listen to but (at least a a complete tube newbie) I felt it was nothing to write home about. I tried a Voskhod 6n23p. Lots of people like this tube but I found it to be harsh and tiring for long sessions (I listen with Sennheiser HD558s). Finally I tried a "new old stock" Amperex JAN 7308 Green label from Upscale Audio http://www.upscaleaudio.com/6922/ . This tube wasn't cheap. I got driver grade and even that cost $50 USD (premium was $80) but the tube has a smooth "liquid" sound (not my term, but once I heard it I knew what ithis term meant) with a nice open soundstage. I think I will keep using this for quite a while.
The best resource for tube rolling with the Aune is http://www.head-fi.org/t/633006/aune-t1-usb-tube-dac-amp-discussion-thread-see-first-post-for-faq. Hope you like the T1.

Yes that's the one! For what it's worth, mine has a green label. The owner of the web site says the color makes no difference, others on he Aune T1 thread disagree. I have no idea, I know I like the tube!

How would you know what label your going to get anyway and what diference would that make? interesting to say the least Is the green label supposed to be superior or something?

Not that I know. Upscale audio says the color of the label means nothing. Check out the Aune thread I mentioned above, people on there have more experience than I do. In the end I just took a chance on the Amperex NOS (mine was made in 1968!) and it turned out well.

Anyone know any other sites where i can reliably buy an amperex 7308 for the aune t1? From what i have read it seems like a good tube, the link given however to upscaleaudio has one problem, the shipping price is ridiculous , its not far off the same price as the tube for shipping to ireland!! Anybody know another reliable site that may offer cheaper shipping?

My tube cost $50, (driver grade) shipping was $13.76 from Upscale Audio, not cheap by any means, but no where near the cost of the tube. However international shipping may be different. My suggestion is to post your inquiry in http://www.head-fi.org/t/633006/aune-t1-usb-tube-dac-amp-discussion-thread-see-first-post-for-faq several members there, especially Coil know all about tube purchases in the Euro zone. Good luck!

Alright, I've been sifting through said thread for about 45 minutes (no small task). The most helpful thing I've found is Salvatore's post:

If anyone would like to drop a few on this thread, that will certainly ease the pain of sifting through the remaining 120 pages of the impressions thread.
