The Tungsol is a 5998, the GE was a 5998A. The 6AS7's I have are both bottle shaped.

lucky you! till now i've only had the chance to listen to straight-sided (and distinctly unsexy) 6080s and 6AS7GAs.

an rca 6080, and ge 6as7ga in case you're wondering. all that should change though with the imminent arrival of my ts 5998s!

The 6as7 and some of the other variants like the 5998 have two types. The coke bottle types are called ST's = shoulder tubes.... while the others are referred to as straight bottle tubes. All these coke bottle shaped tubes, regardless of the tube type, are referred to as shoulder tubes. The 5u4g rectifier tube is another example of a coke bottle shaped shoulder tube.
