TUBE PREAMP ---> SOLID STATE HEADPHONE AMP

Well I have the Firestone Little Country - which sounds absolutely amazing with my Beyers (dt250/80 ohm), but it's not powerful enough to drive my AKG K701s.

So I got to thinking, why not get a solid state amp to drive the K701s, but keep the Little Country sound (it has a preamp out)?

i've seen lots of people try it with K1000s, and it works and sounds good.

I thought this might be an idea, but it seems crazy.....has anyone tried it?

Setup I have in mind:

Firestone Little Country --> Talisman T-3H

How about a tube buffer + a SS headamp?

I have used my Bottlehead Foreplay tube preamp both to add volume and fullness to the signal with good results. I often used it first with my HeadFive which was woefully lacking in output volume and found the soundstage widening as well as adding a slight tube sweetness to the signal. Of course, the other reason of utility was as a switch between sources... The Foreplay is prised for its extention and clarity which is exactly what one would need IMO when choosing to preamp a headamp! Also rolling its tubes provided for slight tone and balance controls...

Yes, it can be done effectively with positive results with the right preamp!

Good luck~

I love hybrid drive.

Why not have the best of both worlds?

My Musical Fidelity X-Can V2 and V3 sound fantastic. Hybrid power!
