Let's suppose I have amp X which takes tube Y, but can use tube Z with an adaptor.

Aside from searching fleabay for "Y to Z adaptor", where might one find such a thing and not have it suck?

Can’t recall from which I got mine but haven’t had a problem but have only bought 3 so can’t say.

Most on eBay are made in China and take weeks to get to your front door. But it all depends on what amp you have and what tube variant you want to go too. There's just so many adapters.

I was trying to avoid asking about particular adaptors, as I have 2 (soon to be 3) types of tubes in my amps and may want to venture beyond drop in replacements someday.

Sounds like the only consensus is to get on ebay and do the usual due diligence. Fair enough!
