The source would matter more IMO. If an amp is "that good" and your headphones are excellent, it's going to reveal flaws in your CD player or DAC.

That being said, why don't you tell us about what your set-up, not what you think is the solution to whatever it is you're pondering.

X2, headphones and then source. I don't know of any popular amp over $300 (I'm struggling at $150) that has really noticeable problems with cymbals with a good source. Maybe some timbre differences, but the headphones and source are much more important.

My HD650 and UE11 may be warm and unbright, but they don't have problems with cymbals on even a medicre source really.
