True or False: There're only 4 different drivers in Grado lineup?

Yeah what a foul company. Go take an econ 101 class and come back to us. It really is absurd that people will complain about this stuff.

Thought it was common knowledge the iFrodo, 60 & 80 had the same Grovers.

Don't think it is particularly naughty, not setting a precedent and no one has said otherwise.

In a thread on 650 drivers, a Senn rep popped in to inform us the 580/600 drivers being the same.

Even if the drivers are from the same production run/line, there would be nothing unusual about grading the drivers and putting the higher spec matched sets in higher end phones. Evidently the original poster and conspiracy buffs haven't bought too many CPU's. All the same production run, graded, spec'd and priced individually.

I'd bet there is no difference in many of the models except for the cables, housing, and better matching.

If I were Grado, I would definitely mention that the drivers were upgraded IF they are different. It's just good marketing. So by not mentioning it, I would assume they ARE the same.

.

The higher end models do have ultra pure copper voice coils while the lower ones don't.

My guess is that there are probably 4 or 5 distinct driver models, and perhaps some headphone models have different doping compounds applied to the diaphragms.

enclosure shape, pads, and damping can have a profound effect on the sound.

Also consider the habits of AKG -- K400, K500, and K401 appear to have the same driver but with the diaphragm made of different materials.

Hmm good point. I still would like to know if the 325i has the same driver as the RS series, but I'l probably never find out. I just hope that my wooden 325i will sound good

You'll probably be the first. We are eagerly awaiting impressions.

Thanx. You missed the only aspect of my post that I intended by it - fun.

What is it with you people? No sense of humor?

1.) why do you say they're "foul"? I like them and I'll happily buy their products - but not in EU

2.) Why should I repeat my classes? 3.) I didn't notice anyone complaining in this thread, but even if someone did, I guess I wouldn't accuse them of irrationality

It seems many Head-fiers get a little snippy when discussing anything Grado. Don't get nme wrong though, I am a very proud 325i owner. As far as the topic goes, from the Grado website:
SR-80 "Built on the same features as the SR60, but utilizes a 4 conductor connecting cable and larger ear cushions"
Sr-125 "Based on the same design as the SR80, the SR125 features an improved diaphragm and voice coil design and UHPLC (Ultra-high purity, long crystal) copper voice coil wire. The Diaphragms are put through a special 'de-stressing' process in order to enhance inner detail"
SR-225 "Features are the same as the SR125 but, this Headphone has an increased air flow by 50% which is achieved through an improved rear metal screen and closer matched drivers"

There is no mention of the 325i or the RS 'phones.

I agree with a few posters that not stating that the drivers are different probably means they are the same. But really, who knows?

To me it seems that the 125 and the 225 definetly share the same driver, just different housing (as stated on the website), but there might be a good possibility that the 325i and both rs's have the same drivers too, that its just the wooden housing (325i vs rs) and the size of the housing (rs2 vs rs1) is the real difference. Are there any owners of both a 325i and RS2/RS1 here? Also I found it weird that the 325i has a new driver compared to the 325, but its nowhere stated what is different or anything, just that its new.
