Yeah, when you think about it it makes sense to only take funds once a campaign has been successfully funded.
I mean if they took it right away they would have to issue refunds if not successful.
When is my card charged?
If the project you’re backing is successfully funded, your card will be charged when the project reaches its funding deadline. If the project does not reach its funding goal, your card is never charged.
If you've backed a project that's still live and you're seeing a charge on your bank statement, it's likely a temporary authorization of funds. The time it takes for an authorization to clear depends on the bank, but typically takes 1–3 days. You won't be charged for your pledge until the project you backed has ended successfully.
What forms of payment can I use to make a pledge?
You can use a debit or credit card associated with Visa, Discover, MasterCard, or American Express. Sorry, but we do not currently accept Maestro, or Visa Electron cards. If using a pre-paid credit card, please make sure that the card has a value of at least $1 more than your pledge amount
Eek sorry made a dysleic mistake there I ment to say debit card not direct debit. The info re when the cash is taken is correct as I have quoted and sourced in my post above.
I have have also corrected the original post.
Sorry about my mistake, I hate being lisdexic at times

Darn! Missed the super early-bird. Still, I'm on-board; these look very good and the idea of a single good-sounding pair of cans for home and outdoor use is just too good to pass up.

I don't use credit, and don't have a credit-card, only debit, because I strongly disapprove of the modern debt-based economy. It makes life more difficult for me but it's a matter of principle that I like to stick to.
Totally with you. I only have a prepaid credit card. or Master card debit you can call it. Before that had a normal bank debit card which I used to load my Paypal account but not all stores accepted it. Let's just say that since I got that prepaid Master card, the online shopping world and this headfier's buying options exploded!

Yeah I'll probably just put 250 or 300 bucks on a prepaid debit card (like one of those Visa Vanilla cards, or something), use that to back the Kickstarter campaign, then sit around and wait until Kickstarter charges it to the card. That way I can be sure that the card they end up charging will definteily have the necessary amount of money on it when the campaign ends, which might not be the case if I ended up using the debit card I have through my bank.
Does anyone know for sure if Kickstarter will accept one of thsoe Visa Vanilla prepaid debit cards?
Haven't tried Visa Vanilla myself I have been using a Visa prepaid debit card (local equivalent) as a Kickstarter payment method myself for year now. Afaik they accept all Visa prepaids so you should be fine.
