A Japanese friend told me this, I thought it was interesting at least...

Apparently the slang for 'Treble / Bass' balance in a headphone or speaker is referred to as "Don-Shari".

Don-Don is the onomatopoeia for 'boom' as in a drum.
and
Shari-Shari is the onomatopoeia for 'chikka' as in a tambourine.

If you really wanted to confuse a newbie, this is the word we could all use... Not only would they have to figure out impedance/SPL and 'dark/bright', they'll twist their head and go "What the hell does he mean, the HD280 has equally well defined but flat Don-Shari?!"

Hey Magic, I should warn you that your friend

could be a serious headphone freak. At least, I think the percentage of Japanese familiar with the word "donshari" might approach the percentage of rabid headphone fanatics. My Japanese is not that great - as I read your post all I could think of was "donburi" and "shabu-shabu" (nice things to eat). However, I have seen "donshari" on a headphone freak website once. I made the mistake of looking for it in the dictionary.

No - he's more of a generic hi-fi freak. He's got Audio Note gear for example...
