Offline upsampled files are relatively large and therefore the compression ratio of WavPack should be the way to go. Since it's a headless system, MPD wouldn't be a choice at all

So far MeLE Quieter2 seemed to be the most appealing to me because of its M.2 2280 slot for NVMe drives, therefore I could add my own Intel Optane SSD with the best SQ for the money

Since Intel didn't provide support for the USB-C PD (Power Delivery) standard for any NUC models so far, I don't think that any affordable mini PCs would have that any time soon.

The Mini PC does not contain a Power Delivery Controller, can't support the Type C power adapter with PD protocol. And then maximum voltage limit of MeLE Quieter2 is 26V. Please use the 12V/2A power adapter we supplied.

4. Can it be powered by a power bank?

No, it’s better not to do that. The mini PC needs a stable 12V/2A power supply, it must connect with the original power supply.

Can this be powered with a usb battery pack?

We do not recommend this, because a high power may burn out the device. Please use the 12V/2A DC charger delivered by us.

I'm assuming that they do know what they're talking about, while they're also quite confident that Quieter2 could get away with 24W (i.e. 12V × 2A) or less.

Some audiophile brands such as Synergistic Research happened to add graphene to quite a few product lines, a power bank like this could get the job done

USB Type C: 5V-3A / 9V- 3A / 15V-3A / 20V-2.25A

That means I'll simply need to try 27W (i.e. 9V × 3A) as well as 45W (i.e. 15V × 3A) with some PD trigger cables and see how far I could get, maybe I'll also add some TPS7A4701 and LT3045 regulators (15V → 13.5V → 12V) for even better SQ just in case 15V might not work
