looking for a toroidal transformer recommendation for a preamp for use in USA with ouput 18VAC, 1A. Thanks.

Check with Plitron, Avel-Lindberg and Victoria Magnetics.

Unless something has changed recently, Victoria Magnetics no longer sells trafos, but manufactures only for their own sound reproduction products.

x2 on Avel Lindburg, but also look at url=http://www.antekinc.com - decent quality with hard to beat price.

If only one secondary is required, you would parallel configure them and that would allow 2 times the current.
