Trafomatic Audio - TakeT H2+ amplifier
Jan 8, 2014 at 2:45 AM Post #16 of 38
Can somebody explain why it has those two blue transformers that look like output transformers? I thought it was supposed to be 'direct' drive from the tube bypassing any transformer? Maybe I am missing something.

I too had thought the T2+ amp is OTL, but apparently not even an OTL design has an output impedance high enough to handle the uber-high load impedance of the H2+. While most transformers coupled to tube amps lower the output impedance for the sake of driving low impedance headphones, the transformer in T2+ was apparently designed to increases it. Of course, this would make the T2+ utterly incompatible with most headphones out there, not even with the 600-ohm Beyer T1.

As you can see in this article, it seems that the TakeT H2+ headphone belongs somewhere in the "fantasy world."

Oh, smoke! Let's see how
Srajan Ebaen/6moons like this. Saša is still on vacation and it will be over a week before the amps ships - He's killing me

I emailed Trafomatic on the 1st to start a dialog about getting one of these amps, but so far I've gotten no response. They seem to update their facebook more regularly.

Edit: I sent an email to Stereo Desk. Anyone here do business with these guys before?

".. more when Sasa returns from his winter vacation and dispatches the loaners..."

no response, because they are on vacation.

Yeah, I saw that. I just thought I'd post to let others know they're not answering e-mails right now (since they don't have an automated reply). They've been updating their Facebook regularly this whole time, so some folks might assume otherwise.

I was wondering when you would show up on this thread. :)
I have a feeling that this amp is going to be a game-changer.

Hi MuppetFace,

I couldn't help but read your query and thought I'd chime in on my own behalf. Our Testimonials and Feedback page does have some
nice things from fellow headfiers.

If anyone is in the New England area, I'm happy to have them come hear the Take-t / Trafomatic combo.  There will also be another review
in the not too distant future.  We should have a demo system by March available to be leant out...at present we're in the 'filling early demand' phase.

All the best,

Fred

I could kick myself reading this...as I actually saw the Taket H2 in Tokyo just a week ago and could have auditioned them but didn't as I had already spent 6 hours solid auditioning various DACs and felt it was high time for a matcha soy latte.  Arrived here because I was intrigued by the design, assumed it to be an electrostat and looked it up.  Sounds like an interesting concept but clearly not a mainstream headphone.  From what I read about them they *might* be good with classical music, does anyone have experience with them for that genre?

Anyway, I guess this is one set of cans that absolutely have to be auditioned before contemplating a purchase...last year and after reading some glowing reviews of the Abyss I tried them in France and was utterly disappointed with their sound.  Not a distributor in sight close to my place in Belgium and here in India it's totally out of the question.

Looking forward to some impressions.

Looking forward to your impressions, Songmic.  Iread the review to which you linked and almost closed the book on these...I can live with bass-light, but in combination with lack of treble detail and given the price...I dunno.  Was thinking 'Stax' in stead of these.  What retained my attention though was Srajan's reference to a glorious midrange and chamber music which is my preferred classical subgenre.

Anyway, curious.  Meanwhile I'll continue torturing myself by listening to some NOS 6AS7's that are burning in and HORRIBLY microphonic during these first hours.

Looks like TakeT did some major redesign on the 2014 edition of H2+ most likely changing the electrical characteristics of if (I think they should have called it H2.1+ or H3+)

The drama is on

Big box in today! Let's skip all unpacking and go straight to what makes tube amplifiers so beautiful :)

Mytek as source works very well, feel I have enough power at 12 o' clock (there is some fuzz about the 1.5Vpp input
sensitivity over at 6moons)
