I enjoy my Shure Se310s and would like to get a better set of IEMs. I also have my Beyer DT770/80's that I would get rid of to help finance this upgrade.

These new IEMs will be powered via Ipod - Tomahawk. Genre's will include Techno, Rock, and Classic Rock.

I would like to keep the cost below $350 (new/used).

Suggestions?

In your place I'd probably get Livewires, or perhaps Ultimate Ears Triple.fi 10s.

I can't speak for you, but I can say that I absolutely love my 530s for metal. I've never heard something so detailed, powerful, and intimate, let alone from something as small as they are.

Do you like your DT770 though?

If so, it'd seem that the SE530 is the 'correct' upgrade path in your chain.

Yes, I do like the Dt770's, although I think I would like them more with an amp. Being that they are heavier on bass, Headphone.com was saying that the 530's are also heavier on base vs the UE 10s, so the 530's where my first choice. So i was interested to hear about the UE's as a suggestion.

I should just drive the hour to HeadRoom and listen to them both :p

Actually, that is a really good idea. It will save you a lot of time and money. I have owned the DT-770 as well as the se-530, and I cannot recommend them as a good choice for you. Coming from full size cans, you will really miss the soundstage and impact bigger drivers have; especially in the bass notes.
