Only for the better line-out and rockbox, I would say yes, if you don't have any amps and don't want to tweak your DAP, stay with the 2g for the better battery life.

You can buy it from Apple directly.

The battery life of ~12hours rated is bunk. with any decent usage, I get MAYBE 6-8.....I think I may need a new battery though, but still, my buddies nano only sees 10 on a good day. Don't rate something and be 25% off.

It is impossible to predict, but not any time in the near future. The hardware is completely different from the other iPods, there is no documentation available for it, and there is no one working on it at present.
