Wow.

I have been looking foward to this, like many of you, for many years. I have listened to this track 10 times now and it is starting to grow on me. At first I didn't like it much, but that's how I have felt about most of Tools previous work at first listen. Lateralus took me months to get into but what a masterpiece. I think this will be the same. Quite a different vibe to lateralus though. Can't wait for May 1st!

Not bad, but I also found the vocals annoying, they seem veiled under the music too much. Not sure if this is the final CD version, but the mastering/production seems a bit rough, definitely a step down from Lateralus.

Its definitely Tool, but is it just me or is there a bit too much APC in there? Sounds more poppy, and less metal. Seems to be lacking that twisted, druggy, psychedelic, tribal feeling.

im gonna have to not listen to this out of context of the album. when i hear 10000 days, i want to hear the whole thing, all at once, in all its uncompressed glory.

I think the song sounds pretty good compared to Lateralus, which was a HDCD, at least on my system right now, I don't feel like I'm missing anything. The vocals are on a perfect level with the music for me, I have listened to the song multiple times, and I'm really getting what I expected from Tool (and some more). I don't really feel the "poppiness" you mentioned in there, nor the comparision to APC, not from a musical point of view.

But that's only for me.

After several more listens, I have to agree with you; I think I've become to attached to that dark, addictive aenima sound! When you look at the changes from undertow to aenima to lateralus, the change in sound is nothing suprising. In any case, its silly to judge an album on one unreleased track, especially a Tool album. Most Tool material requires repeated listening for full appreciation.

I've been listening to the song like 30 times today and I think it's amazing while still growing on me.
The guitar just sounds so powerful, the drums are as accurate as ever, the bass guitar was a nice surprise since it's way more stressed and in the front than on former Tool recordings IMO. Frankly, I disliked the vocals on Lateralus, Maynard sounds much better on the new single recording if you ask me.

Finally I've found the lyrics. If anyone's interested:

Quote:

Eye on the TV
Cause tragedy thrills me
Whatever flavor
It happens to be

Like:
“Killed by the husband”
“Drowned by the ocean”
“Shot by his own son”
“She used the poison in his tea
And kissed him goodbye”
That’s my kind of story
It’s no fun til someone dies

Don’t look me at like
I am a monster
Frown out your one face
But with the other

Stare like a junkie
Into the TV
Stare like a zombie
While the mother holds her child
Watches him die
Hands to the sky crying,
“Why, oh why?”

Cause I need to watch things die
From a distance
Vicariously I
Live while the whole world dies
You all need and choose your own lie

Why can’t we just admit it?
Why can’t we just admit it?
We won’t give pause until the blood is flowing
Neither the brave nor bold
Will write us the stories so
We won’t give pause until the blood is flowing

I need to watch things die
From a good safe distance
Vicariously I
Live while the whole world dies
You all feel the same so

Why can’t we just admit it?

Blood like rain falling down
Drawn by grave and ground
Part vampire, part warrior
Carnivore and voyeur
Still have the transmittal
Sing to the death rattle

La la la la la la la-lie

Credulous at best
Your desire to believe in
Angels in the hearts of men
But pull your head on out your head
Please and give a listen
Shouldn’t have to say it all again

The universe is hostile,
So impersonal
Devour to survive
So it is, so it’s always been

We all feed
On tragedy
It’s like blood to a vampire

Vicariously I
Live while the whole world dies
Much better you than I

This song rocks!!! I loaded it up on SoundForge and there is virtually no compression from what I see. They basically made it as hot as they could without making it sound like it was compressed. Good stuff.

I have searched the web looking for the track with no luck. Would someone be so kind as to PM me a link? I would appreciate it, thanks in advance.

I can't put into words how amazing it is to hear new Tool!

It brings a grin to my lips.
