Try listening to both of them back to back on a good system.

Lateralus and 10000 Days is better if you like louder.

Eulogy is such a fun song to listen to my on my big headphones.

I saw this thread last week but only got around to listening today.

I love Tool but Lateralus sounds like rubbish IMHO.

It may be ok for dimensionality, clarity and separation during subdued times but when it kicks in it's too compressed, flat, cold, harsh.

Lateralus should sound like Pink Floyd's The Wall.

You think Lateralus was poorly mastered? It's not on the same level as Aenima, but damn, Lateralus is one of the best sounding albums in recent years. I could understand if you were referring to the vinyl release, as the pressing I have sounds "off" somehow, but the CD is very good.

I agree, it's very well mastered, as are all the Tool albums, at least compared to most of the crap out there.

It goes about half and half with Tool. Some songs are very easy to pick up on the lyrics, some are fairly hard. I'm a big Tool fan and needed to read the lyrics to a number of the songs to actually understand.

In most of the songs, I can understand the lyrics fine, but then there's Rosetta Stoned. WOW, the first couple of minutes are like 'WHAT???'

Arriving late to the Tool party, 10kd was my first and Lateralus second... not (yet) as taken with Opiate (but giving it another spin now), and guess I gots to pick up Anemia now...

I didn't like it at first, but after a few spins Lateralus really started to grow on me. It's a great album to just zone out and listen to from start to finish, as it doesn't really break up into the individual songs very well. In fact, I'm going to go listen to it right now.

Im primarily into electronica, but this **** just amazes me.. makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.

Is this CD an HDCD?
...if it is, then i'm gonna cry for not having the proper decoding equipment

i dont get the whole tool fed. the music just sounds like drugged up pearl jam and his vocal is straight up korn. And the lyrics seem like they were stolen from a goth chick's suicide dairy. let the flaming begine..

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I, personally, don't like Pearl Jam, but I do like some Korn.

Ten is the only album I'll occasionally listen to by Pearl Jam but the rest I find rather unappealing.

Apparently you heard a different version of Lateralus than I.

It should have been better. I find the vinyl sounds essentially the same in character to the CD.

It's tough to argue with that.

Yeah there is certainly worse...and there is certainly better.

The Grudge:looks about the way it sounds. Not particularly dynamic, peaks are cut off, etc. Could have been worse, could have been (a lot?) better.
