do i need to get an amp to get that "extra" kick of bass out of these cans. they sound great and all, but they really are missing boominess that i think may be caused by me just plugging them in directly to my laptop.

If you want 440 with the boominess, get the 750

but if you were too excited to wait for the 750 (like me) and got the 440 instead, you can just get an E5

so getting an e5 makes a difference?

It does.

In fact I have the E3 and not the E5.  But when I audition it with the E5, it's so much better.

All in all if you want bass get an E5 or E7. because iirc the E7 and E5 have different ways of reproducing bass but I havent tried my 440 with an E7 so I can't really say.

As for me, Im getting a Mini^3.  I realized that I dont mind not having bass if I'm getting the most out of my headphones

my $0.02 only

I returned my 440s. If you want that kick get something else, these just don't naturally have it. Lots of other choices at that price point that will be better out of the box. i find the E5 fine for I|EMs but get a better amp for full size headphones - the E5 is what it is, a cheap okay $20 amp. Doesnt compare to a iBasso T3 or any other decent amp.

well i had the senn280 for like a day and i hated it because it kept on cutting out at various frequencies on the spectrum and have found the 440s to be much more satisfactory in that respect.

I just a PA2V2 for my SRH440 and it improves the SQ immensely. The SRH 440 actually has a very good bassy punch to it if you drive it with a decent amp. To me the SRH440 has perfect bass, very tight, warm and not overbaring, still the srh440 shines in the mid and hi range but the way it handles bass blends very well into its "personality".
I hate to see people dismiss the srh 440 because they dont get enough bass, they are some truly fine headphones.

maybe the bass boost was off

a simple fiio (even the E3) could make a huge addition to the bass

ok, but what exactly is "bass boost" does it artificially magnify the bass by increasing the eq levels?
