Thunderpants (T50RP mod) Group Buy

My heart goes out to him - I'm about to do a similar thing myself (sole proprietorship) and have similar worries, screwing myself over by making bad choices or caving into pressure.

That said, that's my responsibility - the work I take on and how I choose to do it.  There was a lot of wrong put on display in this thread.  And leaving customers in the dust who paid long ago is esp. bad.  I hope it doesn't come to that but I'm not terribly hopeful.

That is very disappointing news as this was a significant purchase for me.  I don't harbour Gary any ill will.  I can think of few things more traumatic and humiliating than trying to financially keep your self solvent while trying to meet everyone's expectations.  Sorry to hear about your own worries bobeau.

Guys,

Good news, just got a response from Gary - "they are in testing and tuning and hopefully in the mail tomorrow."

Glad to see despite much more important matters on his mind that he's still working on TP1 orders.

Thank goodness.  Best wishes to Gary on whatever his situation may be and to his customers to receive their headphones soon.

I sent back my set of TP1's to Gary 3 months ago to fix some frequency response problems.  Early on, he reassured me that he knew what to do to correct the SQ problems and told me he made a new set of baffles for my set.  I've emailed him a half dozen times since then but received no further replies, to date. I thought this was unusual since he was always very good with communication, before. I was worried that something bad had happend with his health or involving his family.

Like anyone who has paid $650, I want my set tuned properly and returned to me. The craftsmanship and engraving art work he created is stunning. Under the circumstances, I now understand the delay and failure to respond to my emails.

I am very sorry for his sad and stressful situation. I will remain patient and hopeful, and send Gary my best wishes.

I heard from Gary, today. He's super stressed and sorry he's disappointed people who've sent money. He's sending my set back this week. He intends to make it right for everyone. I suggested he post an update to let everyone know what's going on. I hope he will.  I think he needs to hear from folks who are sympathetic. He's an honest guy dealing with over-whelming problems. Any one of us would feel the same way if we had to try to cope with what he is facing.

Hey Guys,

Mine are in the mail, Gary went way beyond on fixing mine up:

"I kept them longer for more thorough testing because, apart from the basic cups, absolutely everything else is new so I wanted to make sure they were fully bedded in and sounding like they should. I decided against fitting the mini ports because with the new baffles, pads and damping scheme any further porting would be detrimental. The bass is solid, strong and very deep. My test tones go down to 10Hz and you can hear every step from 10 upwards. The wires have soft sleeving and the cup mounts have ball joints so you have fuller movement including about 20 deg rotation for easy head fit alignment. I just wanted to make sure they were right before sending them."

If this is true (I tried test tones on them before and they were almost silent right around 25hz) these will probably be keepers for the long haul.  I liked the sound quite a bit before, just a bit heavy and recessed in the bass.  Switching from LCD2 -> O2 pads hopefully this is mostly rectified.

Despite his terrible circumstances it looks like in due time everything will be made right.

I hope he can turn his situation around, he certainly has the skills to build stuff people really want.

Update: Gary replied to my latest email.  It seems there have been some technical problems with O2 pads however I'm now hopeful that Gary's intention is to do his best by everyone.
