Like it.

How about some old school. "I Surrender" 1969

I first heard it on a great N Soul Album called Foot Stompers on the classic 80s Kent record label, check Eddie Regan "Playin' Hide & Seek" on this Album as well, pure class.

Its probably more on the soul side of the funk spectrum, but its gets my feet twitchin the same.

I noticed Kent are starting to re release their Albums on CD, keep an eye out.

Eddie Holman what a voice ...

I'm currently really blown away by this 4CD compilation: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Northern-Soul-Anthems-Various-Artists/dp/B0028ERCQG

it feels like Barry White: killer vocals, funky at times, sweet sounding...northern soul is really worth a listen IMO. Lou Rawls is funkaÿ, oh yes he is! and there's many singers who followed his path.

This song is a perfect example: http://www.google.com/search?q=The+M.V.P%27s+Turning+My+Heartbeat+Up&tbs=vid%3A1

All the songs have the GoldmineSoulSupply sound, but they're not in crumy vinyl mono...they come from the EMI vaults, fully remastered and in stereo at that

PS: hehe, this guy says the exact same thing: http://www.amazon.co.uk/product-reviews/B0028ERCQG/ref=cm_cr_dp_all_helpful?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1&sortBy=bySubmissionDateDescending

"It contains many tracks previously on Goldmine compilations with dodgy sound taken from vinyl. Here though the sound is very good "

The GSS compilations are always killer, but mono vinyl ain't cool no more.

Those 4 CD's just about cover everything.

Dean Parrish - I'm On My Way   ... Classic x 2

Yes agree RE Mono, some of the quality of those N.Soul tracks can be very bad (in the Bad sense of the word!), so if they have been remastered I will have to have check this out.

I hear a story they made so many N.Soul singles they used them as ballast in boats, not sure if that story is an urban myth though.

I know the GSS NS compilations are really killer, but the SQ is horrid..not really worth my time.

2 other killer compilations are the "country got soul"...it's basically 2 hours of bayou funky music, totally amazing.

there's a cover of "higher and higher" from Otis Redding on that 4CD NS compilation...it's really no match to the original, duh.

This is his last album that was released after he crashed in that plane, it does include "higher and higher"....most likely one of the very best voices soul has ever had IMO. This album is full of one hit wonders!

Seeing OR on video is ever rarer, it was quite a blast to see him hosting the final show of that recently remastered TV serie: http://www.thevideobeat.com/store/rock-roll-tv/the-beat-vol-5-6.html

I hope to witness you back in funky action. Weird, the groove in King Crimson's "Cat Food" made me want to post here again.

Oh well...
