The round-up doesn't look so bad. But how much have they auditioned different gear to make such conclusions is a different story.

Yeah, the high end Stax are probably better than those. What's amusing is that even cheaper stuff is arguably better than those (RS1, HD650, AD2000, W5000 come to mind).

Eh, these sorts of reviews and comparisons are always limited. Anything authoritative would require a lot more equipment and wouldn't conveniently fit on a couple pages of copy. Still, it's nice to see headphones being taken seriously in the press. If the segment grows, there will be more gear for us.

x2. I was expecting something much less impressive and well thought out, though maybe that is just an indication of the sorts of articles usually posted here because people think they're absurd.

I was impressed from my low expectations. He gave a decent summary/comparison. Not really useful, but nice publicity for headphones.

Not sure how the folks at Benchmark would feel about having the DAC1 categorized as a headphone amp that just happens to have a DAC along for the ride... Especially since it would lead one to believe that it's a great amp and just a decent DAC, when in fact it is exactly the opposite.
