i just tried them with the dual-flange.. tightened up the sound quite a bit, but man those things just irritate my ears too much, i don't think i can use them anymore...

Surprised to hear you disliking the highs... I found the whole sound of the phone to be really muffled and muddy until I removed the wax guards. But that's what makes this hobby so awesome, different strokes for different folks.

Otherwise we'd all have MDR-V150s

Yeah, I just bought some too at Walmart and I too thought they sound very tinny and over pronounced midrange. Pretty crappy actually, but not as crappy as the stock Zune earbuds. I'm burning them in now and hopping for some improvement. If not, i guess i need to spend some more money. I'm going to use these for business traveling (i.e., airline). I'll keep using my KSC75 for work and my Monitor Audio Speakers at home. Damn those Ksc75 really spoil you!

Make sure you have good seal, they should be pretty bass heavy - the exact opposite of what you are describing. If you don't have a good seal, they sound really anemic.
