worse for the site, better for me i spend nothing like the time i used to here.  i pretty much hate the site and evertime they change something else they just make me dislike the place more

a lot of old faces are no longer seen anymore

i agree with you mark.i lost interest in headphones now.i used to spend couple of hours everyday reading reviews old and new but now i lost interest in even reading about a new product.
its actually a good thing since i now have more time to study and listen to audiobooks.

I liked the place better when I first came here. I could be accused of being an old fart and not taking kindly to change.

I've noticed the total forum reader counts have dropped by at least a third from the last format. We used to have approx. 2,000 at any one time, now it's around 1,300.

The reality is this is much more commercial now and geared to sponsors. The old feel of the forums are rare.

you are not alone here.i am 18 and i also dont like the amazon-like presentation.i also miss reading posts by the old members which i dont see anymore.

It has occurred to me that if newcomers are inclined to start their own thread, and likely to be put off by replies of "use the search function", then "don't forget to use the search function" should be a banner or sticky.
Maybe even an animated banner ("ooh shiny!").

This way it would serve as friendly advice.

Although I'm guilty of posting threads asking questions, I always use the search feature first and look at old threads for a week or longer to try to find out what is best for me.

Anyway, I think a good way to stop people making threads asking "what headphone/iem/amp/whatever should I get for X genre in X price range?" would be to have a sticky which has a list of headphones that are best for each genre (e.g. electronica, rock, metal, etc) in each price range (e.g. $0-$50, $50-$100, $100-$200, etc).

Then someone can simply access that sticky, choose a few headphones that catch their interest and then use the search feature to find out about them if needs be. I don't know nearly enough about headphones to do this, I'm simply putting it forward as an idea.

On an unrelated note, I'm surprised there's no way to delete your post/thread here.

Won't work, has been done before, etc.
The average poster lacks any initiative and wants to have stuff spoon fed to him, even if his questions are already answered on the first page.
Since the posting rules on this forum are very light and there are always people willing to help, there is no way to stop this.
A way to change it would be to enforce sterner rules regarding threads with crappy signal/noise ratio, or just have the community itself encourage people to do research themselves rather than spoon feeding answers, but this won't happen for obvious reasons.

As for the thread topic, I'm also one of the many that feels none of these changes lately have been good, and I rarely post here anymore.
Although it is also related to the fact that I've pretty much reached the setup I want, so I mostly lurk rather than post, since I still like to read about new gear or people talking about what they have.
But compared to a year or so, my time spent here has probably decreased by at least 70%.

It is also difficult to have a "best of" list because of the subjective nature of this hobby.  It seems a lot of people want to be TOLD they should buy instead of listening and figuring it out.  Reading about how something sounds won't give you an idea of how it sounds until you listening to it with your own ears.  I understand that its difficult to choose because of the immense number of options and money is a limiting factor to try different options.  However, posting a question about what to buy would yield either multiple of valid suggestions (i'm not discounting suggestions made by members because that is what works for them) or just the current FOTM.

The search function is pretty bad and inconsistent. I used to post a lot here but I am lucky if I show up on the weekends now. For some reason the change does not sit well with this old phart, do wish all the best.

I miss being able to type in random terms into the search and coming up with awesome years-old threads.

I really need a girlfriend.

....2 cents from someone who hasnt been around for too long. But became familiar with the place when it was using its previous look.
As someone who work professionally as a "design" & "user experience" specialist I would like to offer my brief opinion.

So I think the change has been for the better, posts switching between wide/narrow is a bug and is hopefully worked on.
The search functionality is a nightmare for some reason you can use it all you want you somehow just dont find the stuff you need (even if you know its there) it might be because of the search algorithm being used? Or some other backend problem.
At the same time subscriptions is very neatly organized now.
All in all, if you leave bugs (search and some odd behavior from time to time) aside looks and ease of use has improved. If someone is interested I could offer a more complete overview and analysis if needed just PM and ill make some time and do it.
At the moment back to work on my own projects

I am mostly alright with the new format and even though it stinks that feedback is now square one I think it will be a better system in the future.

I have a single real complaint. Fix the search. It was a ton easier getting quality information and threads with the older search. I feel it only contributes to the bone headed questions that other's have complained about.

I remember the old search function.
One request please, for the search results:
Order results by putting threads with the search term in the title first, I think sometimes this isn't the case which is frustrating.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that would greatly appreciate this.

Huddler has too many bugs and the changeover was poorly thought out and its execution made this place worse. Then, there are all of these newbies that have pushed the original community out of the forums. Manufacturers and audio dealers came in like a swarm of bees to complicate buying choices for people like myself. There is no reliable information unless you are willing to buy in and post your opinions to gauge the sonic and aesthetic qualities of a particular piece of high fidelity component. The meets suck worse than the forum and it is starting to get more expensive to travel around the US or the world because the holiday season is approaching yet again.

The one dependent thing that I have noticed are the number of computer experts among us that are either studying to break into the IT industry or those that already cut their teeth at their current jobs. So, I have found extra value in creating a whole bunch of threads bout computers which has saved me an enormous amount of time and money. This is why I still hang out here nowadays because I stopped buying high fidelity components except for music CDs.

Hey Sergei, I agree, but I think it's just us old users who like to keep things the way things are and not have any changes. Changes are difficult for us because we got used to the old, but I'm sure the new(ish) members think this place is great (and it is!). I've seen multiple forums outgrow me, but it's only growing so quickly because it's so good. Still a lot of great people around here with a lot of knowledge.

Sure, things get asked again and a again, but we've all gotten used to that by now have we? Every couple of months when I log in (I don't come here as often as I used to, turned to the dark side and 'finished' my rig), there's a thread like this. This also gets asked again and again!

I just can't find my feedback thread for the life of me. Tried to leave feedback to a user a couple weeks ago and couldn't find that either. Anybody know where it all went?

Any awesome local meets I've been missing out on?

That's exactly what we were talking about...
It's in some archive and cannot be transfered to the new system. Great change.

But i must admit, last year when it was still the old way...members lounge etc...the whole place seemed more active. Now its like, someone posts something and there is 1-3 responses per week etc.
So whomever decides those things if its his/her business he/she should take note and do something if usercount or revisits etc are declining because as with music...fans/users are everything to places like these.
More users=money, wealth, power & respect.
