The thrill of the hunt.//Where do we go from here?

What higher end source from the Zhalou have you heard? From my limited experience with the K1000 they're very source sensitive.

If you have the space (and noise isn't an issue around you) think about going for speakers?

I'm pretty much done with my headphone hunt after I get my amp, then it's diving into the speaker world

I've heard some Rega unit (probably the Apollo, but I forgot), the NAD master series, the newest Ayre CDP, and a McIntosh unit, none of which impressed me enough for the amount of money they were. Another thing about source upgrades is, if I ditched the Zhaolu, which I'm perfectly happy with already, I'd also have to get another preamp.

In that case mod the Zhaolu

Ah, well then you're lucky. Unfortunately for me, I have heard the HE90, and how headphones will never be the same. It's not that it's all that amazing in any one specific area, but to my ears it does absolutely nothing wrong, which isn't something that I can say of any other headphone, save perhaps for the HD600, though the latter isn't anywhere in the same league. At the same time, it's also extremely musical, though not by virtue of any exaggeration or colorations...

Well, I'd say start getting more music. What else is there?

Ya know; Y'all are right about something. Relax and enjoy what we have!

I just got new cans and stuck a servicable amp in front of those new cans and it really sounds good!! I SHOULD just kick back and enjoy it! That's right!!

The upgraditus bug that Alessandro shipped with my cans in the Grado pizza box can just wait a while!!

Yeah!

I agree here..

I no longer search for the best phones because phones like chips should be endlessly savored. Your problem is you've reached the bottom of your bag and refuse to buy more chips.

Try a cheaper, simpler game. I'm building a "system" around the new Shuffle. It costs $85 and the phones will cost no more than $100. If I do this right I'll have a rig that's almost physically imperceptible, sonically transparent and rivals home systems costing many times more. My lambda Pros languish here begging to be played but I'm having so much fun comparing KSC75s to true fakes that I don't even care.
