Ok, i have used both 9038s 3rd Gen and Beam2 with OnePlus 7 Pro, KZ ZS10 Pro and Neutron player...

I'm not a musician or an expert, so here are my thoughts...

9038s

Bass a little deeper, no audible background noise when the song is in pause ( Beam2 has some little noises when connected or in pause), the 9038s sounds a little better with DSD files than Beam2 ( Beam2 is also god, but for DSD, 9038s it's the best choice)

At VERY high sound levels, it seems that the 9038s goes in distortions, but it's just because it keeps bass power at those levels, Beam2 loses bass power, so it has less distortion. ( and less basses)

If you have an iPhone, you have to use a camera adapter cable in order to use the 9038s, not sure for Beam2 ( there's a lightning cable in the box but i don't have iPhone)

9038s is cheaper ( 89 USD vs 139 USD for the Beam2)

I hope that this was a little help for you.

Let's make it two in a row, and have a look at another dongle DAC/AMP today, before we get to something big over the weekend~

We have the new Beam 2 produced by Audirect & Hilidac & Audirect/hilidac today, and while I feel the blue won't match with every smartphone out there, the driving power, and clean sound will match with most portable earphones, and even headphones!

It has a balanced output, MQA Support, and 145mW of power in 32 OHMs at maximum, with an ESS ES9281C PRO DAC inside! More info about the sonics, pairings and comparisons in the full written review~

RU6 vs. HM800, all the portable R-2R glory.

Moondrop's Moon River 2 has arrived. Initial impression is very positive - basically 95% of the same sound signature as L&P W2 at 1/2 the price. I think I might even prefer it over W2-131 and RU6.

iFi Go Bar - and yes, there is an actual limited Gold Bar version (*gold plated copper housing with enhanced power filter circuit) as well.

Both are on the expensive side, £329 and £499 respectively. In comparison, iFi own full sized portable DAC/amp xDSD Gryphon is £599.

Yikes, more expensive than some of the iDSD portables have been.

But least they include all the usual ifi bells and whistles like iematch etc...

Actually it does. IEMatch, S-Balanced, XSpace, XBass+, MQA etc are all in there.

So an iphone can power this one? even at max vol/ high ohms cans? or will the iphone struggle and say not enough power like the RU6?
