The Stax SR-L500 and SR-L700 Impressions Thread

Currently own a BHSE with SR-009. Looking to add another electrostat to the mix for diversity. I have listened to the L700, L500 & 007 while living in Japan. Spent a great amount of time listening to these on the T8000. In your humble opinion, to provide a diverse listening experience, which earspeaker would you suggest from the either the Stax family or another electrostat.
Hi, it seems a bit silly to come from Kevin Gilmore, and step down towards a L500 on a T8000. Perhaps an other KG amp? Transistor? You would have to use a transformer to get to 110 Volt? https://mjolnir-audio.com/products/ In the perception of Mjolnir the T8000 is not that great. I do not have your cash, but if I had, I would look for something at the same level. Best wishes, y

I am sorry, guess I was not to clear in my question. Perhaps I can see your confusion. I listened to the earspeakers (L500, L700 & 007) on the T8000 a couple years ago while I lived in Japan. Since moving back to the US, I purchased the BHSE/009 combo. I am not getting rid of the BHSE and 009. My question is, which elctrostat earspeaker (headphone) using the BHSE would provide a different listening experience than the 009. At times, I would like a different listening experience. I am leaning towards the Stax L700 MK2 or the Voce. Thoughts?

Asking "what's something different" is a bit vague. What do you not like about the 009/BHSE combo? What would you like your setup to do differently?

The 009 capture 90% of what I am looking for. As we know, the 009 is detailed, fast, clean and often minimizes bass. If I wanted more a neutral, warm and more bass as an electrostrat what HP would be a complementary HP to my current inventory? Type of music I listen to is Prog Metal, electronic, new age, vocals, depends on the mood.

Have you ever heard about Perun?

It is my answer to your "problem". Try it, and you may be surprised. It works well for me. But I do not have BHSE. I use Mjolnir KGSSHV Carbon.

I love my SR009, but I have never loved the SR009/BHSE combo. Too much of a good thing IME, and BHSE is really a natural mate for Omega II, if possible OII MkI. BHSE turns the (overly) warm, dark character of OII into more neutral yet still warm-enough detail and dynamics monster. On the same token, I have not loved OII on pretty much any other amps other than BHSE (haven't tried T2).

Thank you both. This is what I was asking for. I have only heard the Voce and 009 on the BHSE. Hearing about these HPs spikes some interest. Definitely will check these out.

Sounds like an offer I could not refuse. One question: It says DIY handmade. By whom? It is not something like IKEA? They are finished when you buy them?

They are made on order by a guy in Russia. I have both versions (the first is discontinued) and value them both very high.

You can order via their web: http://perun.prfi.ru/
They will contact you by mail then. I was very skeptical at the beginning, as the site is not very professional, but the communication was OK. And I like the build quality and love the sound quality for the price! It just can take weeks to produce them on your order. But they will tell you the date in advance. Check the head-fi thread about these headphones. I agree mostly with everything said there:

If you are looking for something different sounding from 009, I recommend L300 - it offers more exciting mids and treble, but sacrifices the bass. Super cheap too.

I second this - for a cheap option that offers a nice change of pace, the L300 is a great buy. 007 is also distinctly different from the 009, and a headphone I also recommend wholeheartedly. With that being said, I think coming from the 009s the lambdas should be more interesting in terms of change of pace and so on. And remember, there is no single headphone - there will always be a certain level of compromise because of all the different genres.

Looking for insight...

Currently have the L300s with L700 pads. This is my first pair of Stax and I love the Stax sound. I also love how intimate sounding the L300 is and did a bit of research and found that quite a few people who had both the L300 and L300Ltd returned the limited edition version as it did not have as much of an intimate sound they wanted.

Do you guys feel the L700 is a worthy enough upgrade from the L300 to warrant the extra cost and will I lose much of the intimacy the L300 gives (even with L700 pads) with the increased soundstage?
