Will SRD-7 be any better than my 252S? Currently I have a L300 but going to upgrade it to L300 Ltd or L700.

I have a 212 which is the early version of 252 (some said the amplifier circuitry is the same), the 212 is more detailed than the SRD while the SRD have "less-restricted" bass. Neither one is that great.

I don't have any L series stax so have no idea how well they will match.

No, it is basically the same exact circuit with different tubes, so they will sound slightly different, but not significant enough to mention.

There is a choice to squeeze more out of the SRM-600 without getting a non-Stax DIY amp, outlined here:

Thanks a lot for your info!

1. I tought…the 007tII has more tubes than the SRM-600….and so, he is better, more sonic spatiality….detailed soundspace!?
Isn’t it?

2. Very good and detailed explanation of the Mod for the SRM-600! ..but I can‘t do that. I have not the experience for those project…and I will not damage my 600 🥴

No, in this case it does not depend on the number of tubes. They produce the same power, they just sound slightly different, but imho it is not worth spending money on.

I understand, there are sites which offer this conversion service for a fee (Dominik Stritt Audio)

If you prefer to keep it stock, this is pretty much as far as it will go for Stax amps. Afterwards, you are looking at DIY amplifiers, which are substantially better with regards to power, regulated power supply, etc.

Thanks for the insightful explanation. So, it makes more sense to update my SRM-600 with the mod than buy the 007tII….or go with a KGSS/T or so….

Is D-50 a good amp for L700 MK2?
It has enough power to get it very loud and drive the bass properly, but it will give a warm tilt to the sound.
Better use it with an external DAC - it won't sound as warm.

Also, check this review: https://www.headamp.com/products/stax-srm-d50

D50 is a simplified SRM353X, pick your poison carefully. On the other website, they go in details of D50's design.
Design has very little to do with actual sound in a specific pairing.

SRM-400S or SRM-500T? Does L700Mk2 like tubes or solid state?

I guess it depends on the preferences and in general sound perception is very subjective.

Some time ago I posted here my impressions after testing L700 on 006t (tube) vs 700s (solid state) energisers. I know it's not fair comparison, because 700 is ~2 steps higher in stax lineup than 006 ( fair comparison would be 700t vs 700s). However the difference was night&day, and I couldn't believe that 700s was so much better, in absolutely every aspect, bringing l700 into a completely new level.

What if I choose between SRM-353x and 006t or 007t?
