The Sony 40th Anniversary Walkman Thread

If you download the albums to your SD card then the streaming services don’t take nearly so much battery during playback. Not always practical of course but for those frequently listened to albums saving them offline saves a huge amount of battery usage.

Also the tidal MQA playback is horrific in battery so maybe stick with lossless.

Yeah I do that. But I don't want to download and listen, I just want dynamic track access whenever, wherever.

I put Niagara launcher on it the other day. It works pretty well. Animation is slightly choppy on such a device, but I like it better than the really old fashioned launcher sony gave us.

Too bad it doesn't support gestures.

Maybe give Shade Launcher a try. It's free and lightweight, so nothing to lose. Not sure about specific gestures though...

Hey guys!

I’m new here and my first time posting on a thread.

I just want to share the battery longevity of my A105. I let it play from 100% to 5% and it lasted for 30hrs playing mostly flac and a couple dsd files.

Honestly, i’m very much impressed and satisfied especially for its clarity and sound signature.
I am curious how you managed to get 30 hours, is that with some tweaks or just Outta box wifi bt off ?

Regarding people complaining about a105 and it's battery especially compared to a55 , look I love a55 but most Daps with Android pretty much suck at battery that's the compromise you make.

My main reason for gettin a105 was I can use it as a105 or just disable all crap and Google adware and apps and background services and just basically make it an a55 and use it as a normal music player and it lasts me two three work days which is fine , also type c port is huge advantage and ofcourse if one day I want to use it for streaming again as a streamer or something I can just reset it. For me it's best of both worlds.

Also having used couple of ibassos before the wifi chip was sketchy and by also wasn't consistent, a105 has worked flawlessly for me so far. I do love a55s and they are probably better choice as pure local media player but a105 are good in their own way and also allow you to use them for local files if you fine tune it and you can install a media player of your choice as well as the Sony one does lack some basic features re playlists ( and synced lyrics too ? ) Etc . But regardless the Sony hardware is pretty ton notch imo.

Although I want to try some ofnthe hibh offerings ,but so far a105 has been satisfactory.

Also on side note I think Sony uses its own dac chip whereas everyone else uses either cirrus or sabre ( correct me if I am wrong ) and I kinda like signature Sony sound .

I just want to abandon the bottom nav buttons in favor of swipe from bottom, etc. Gestures is empty in the settings on that device.

I use my android phone that way so was hoping to get there, so they're similar. Thanks for the tip tho

Yeah. I mean...

It's good as a transport option. frees up your phone. you can use it as transport with a nice portable dac.

At least with IEMs, good iems, it sounds really damn good. I like the DSP ClearAudio on this too. I think it's better that this devices DSEE HX anyway and quite good, although some hate using DSP. but to me it makes my IEMs hang in there with the higher end headphones I usually use.

I dont hate it. I just wish it had double or quadruple the battery. Maybe they'll eventually get power consumption down

I agree tbf . I have always said best way to make such dap is ro dual boot then with lets say android and custom firmware so you can use android for streaming and custom firmware when you require long hours of playing local music.

I mean the battey in a105 is bigger than a55 iirc its just android takes so mich juice , its basically a smartphone os running on a dap no wonder it sucks so much battery.

Can you link the tweaks post ? Thanks
It's in the 156th page of this thread.

Optimize your A105 for Better Sound Quality in Walkman Music App sdcard playback only mode.(not streaming at all).

This tweak will help improve the sound quality of your A105 for offline playback by disabling all unnecessary apps and services.

To reset this tweak, just do a factory reset.

Requirements
Firmware is updated to 2.00.10
Backup any important data stored on walkman internal storage
Recommend to format your microsd card using the walkman android OS itself and not via Windows/Mac/Pre-formatted

Settings > System > Advanced > Reset Options > Erase all data (factory reset)

Once this is done, just go through the initial setup.

Do not enter WIFI connection details and do not log in to your google account.

Settings > Wifi > Airplane Mode > On
Settings > Wifi(press on icon) > Wifi Preferences > Switch off everything listed here
Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > NFC > off
Settings > Bluetooth(press on icon) > Wireless Playback Quality > LDAC Sound Quality Pref. (this will set LDAC connnection bitrate at highest 990Kbps)

Settings > Apps and notifications > See all 28 apps > Press on the three vertical dots on the top right corner of screen > Show system >
From here you going to press on each app and disable them individually, these are the apps to disable:

Next we are going to disable battery optimization:
Settings > Apps & notifications > Advanced > Special app access > Battery Optimization > Press on Not Optimized > All apps >
From here we are going to select each app and select Don't optimize.
Do this for all apps except those apps that have Battery optimization not available

Next we are going to enabled 2D GPU acceleration
Settings > System > About Device > Build Number (Press 10 times on this to get developer status)
Settings > System > Advanced > Developer options > Force GPU Render > On
Settings > System > Advanced > Developer options >
Windows animation scale > Off
Transition animation scale > Off
Animator duration scale > Off
Settings > Accessibility > Remove Animations > On

Settings > Sound >
Media Volume > slide to most left
Alarm Volume > slide to most left
Notification Volume > slide to most left

Settings > Sound > Advanced
Screen locking sound > Off
Charging sound > Off
Touch Sounds > Off

Once you have done the above. You have to make a choice between two sound modes. Yes, this setting affects the sound of the Walkman music app.

Settings > Sound > High-Res streaming >

ON: More 3D-like soundstage, more distant vocals

OFF: Less 3D soundstage, Vocal imaging is better

If you want best sound quality when using DSEE HX, It is recommended to turn off battery saver as it affects DSEE HX AI processing. If you are using Direct Source Mode, it is ok to use battery saver mode.

This is just wrong to be talking about soundstage and vocals... that setting just resamples everything to be 32/192khz regardless. It's required if you use Hifi Plus with MQA Masters various bitrates, otherwise not
