The Sony 40th Anniversary Walkman Thread

You know you would buy one :)
Or 2...maybe 3.

It could even be a silver 1A in an aluminum body with 1Z capacitors and Kimber wire. Same firmware and feel as the 1A. So it would sound somewhat between the 1A and 1Z. Cost $1200. But...............the Japanese would probably never do something so easy. It’s going to be different...........the question is how much.....different?

I am hoping some of the DMP-Z1 tech makes it's way into whatever this is.
That's probably not gonna happen though, not until the 1A and 1Z successors come to market. "Fingers Crossed"

Why not just concentrate on balanced only? Agreed on ZX300 has the best form factor. My 1Z is often stay at home because of that alone.

This is a pure nostalgia thing for me. When I was a kid, I was low key obsessed with my Walkman. Looking back, it was the first audiophile gear I ever owned. But at the same time, I'd love to see Sony figure out what a modern Walkman is in the age of smartphones, HD FLAC, streaming, chi-fi, etc. I mean, they can be content to be more of a niche player, but they can compete with the likes of FiiO, so why not?

IMO the FiiO M11 is currently king when it coems to bang for your buck, offering sonic performance similar to DAPs in the thousand dollar range for less than half the price. Sony's new DAP will most likely be more expensive than $450, but if it can deliver BFYB performance like the M11 that'd be amazing

Also can I just say how cool it was for them to design the 40th Anniversary logo just like the original back in 1979? Nice throwback they did there!

Following...

Can't believe they actually kept this quiet so close to the reveal date! Are you guys thinking a new flagship device here or more of a ZX300 successor?

Now I WOULD buy a silver A1! After having the black MZ-RH1 with which the black paint comes off on the corners, Silver looks classy IMHO. That's why I love my ZX1. I think historical the anniversary editions tend to be silver or a champagne? I.e. MZ-NH1 (30th); NW-ZX1 (35th)

Subscribe this thread. I have been a fan of Walkman and using several cassette, CD, mobile phone (Sony Ericsson W-series), and ofc DAP types.
