The Sony 40th Anniversary Walkman Thread

A little bit different, but you can try IKEA’s Symfonisk sound temote. For less than 50€, it worked for me.

bugger, might be able to do it with Macronos app but beginning to get complicated. I really wanted a nicely built, small device with hardware buttons to use like a remote. I love the build of Sony gear and it’s one of the very few android devices with hardware media keys...

Hi All,
I'm new here but wanted to inform users of the NW-A105 that I have definitely noticed a volume increase since updating to Firmware 2.00.05. My unit was purchased on Amazon UK and EU capped. I've decided to keep this Walkman now. Up to the point of this update I was ready to sell it on.

Good to know. I ended up importing a Japanese ZX507 instead.

I second this. I purchased an EU version and imported it to the U.S. Although I am using the JP firmware, I too noticed a volume increase with the latest update.

Volume operation in compliance with European and Korean Directives
  • For European customers
  • For Korean customers (models supplied with headphones)
The alarm (beep) and warning [Check the volume level.] are intended to protect your ears. They occur when you initially turn the volume up to a harmful level. You can cancel the alarm and warning by tapping [OK] on the alert dialog.
Note
  • You can turn up the volume after you cancel the alarm and warning.
  • After the initial warning, the alarm and warning will repeat every 20 cumulative hours that the volume is set to a level that is harmful to your ears. When this happens, the volume will turn down automatically.
  • If you turn off the player after you have selected a high volume that may damage your eardrums, the volume level will automatically be lower when you turn on the player the next time.
  • The alarm will not sound when there is an active Bluetooth connection.

@Sonywalkmanuser . Thank you but I think this is a separate issue. The EU cap on my unit almost rendered it useless in my opinion. I was listening at maximum setting (100-120) to get any useful volume from the device with a variety of 16 ohm and 32 ohm headphones. After the update I'm now listening comfortably between 90 and 100 setting. Max volume is now far to loud to listen for any length of time.

Is same problem with UK/EU ZX507.

I had a Japanese import A105 and on its 3.5mm I could have my 8ohm SE846's at ~70/120 to be loud enough. When I bought (and returned) a UK ZX507 even on balanced I was at 100/120! (maybe 105 on 3.5mm)

With my ZX507 from Japan I'm at ~65/120 on Balanced and with the high gain option (missing on EU/UK ones) I'm as low as 45/120 with the SE846's.

The UK/EU volume restriction Sony do is madness. No other manufactures DAP's are crippled this way.

FInal B1 and Nw-a105 Japanese version.
13Ω - 94dB I use volume from 65 to 80 for high volume.
